Newly appointed Intelligence officer Shivadhar Reddy, and V Seshadri.

Senior IPS officer B Shivadhar Reddy and IAS officer V Seshadri have been appointed as the Telangana intelligence chief and secretary to the chief minister, respectively.

The fresh order came hours after Revanth Reddy took charge as the chief minister of Telangana on Thursday, 7 December.

This, even as several top appointed of the previous BRS regime — including DGP Anurag Sharma — resigned from their posts.

As reported earlier by South First, B Shivadhar Reddy, Telangana’s first intelligence chief who was sidelined by BRS chief and former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was one of the first picks by the Revanth Reddy.

The 1999-batch IAS officer, V Seshadri, who was in charge of the General Administration Department, has now been appointed as the secretary to the chief minister.

With the change in the government, more reshuffles in the top government offices are expected in the coming days.

The new appointees

B Shivadhar Reddy, a 1994-batch IPS officer, served as the first intelligence chief of Telangana. He used to hold positions such as the commissioner of police (CP) in Visakhapatnam and the director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in united Andhra Pradesh.

Following the formation of the new state of Telangana, Shivadhar Reddy, known for his staunch support for Telangana statehood, was appointed the intelligence chief by KCR in his initial stint.

However, in 2016, after his tenure lasted around two years, Shivadhar Reddy was transferred to what was reported as an insignificant role as the inspector general of police (IGP) in charge of personnel.

According to official sources, this transfer was done by KCR, and the reasons were known only to him.

Subsequently, Reddy served as the assistant director general of police (ADGP) for railways and road safety.

Now, with Revanth as the chief minister, Shivadhar Reddy, handpicked by him, will be leading one of the most important departments.

Meanwhile, V Sheshadri is a 1999-batch IAS officer who served in the Prime Minister’s office for over five years.

He joined the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in 2020 and was appointed the secretary there, with additional charge of Stamps and Registration.

However, in 2022, he was replaced and given full additional charge as the General Administration Department secretary.

Regarded as an upright IAS officer, he was selected by Revanth Reddy as his secretary.

Meanwhile, Anurag Sharma, the first Telangana DGP and advisor to the government, tendered his resignation hours after Revanth Reddy took charge as chief minister.

After superannuation in 2017, Anurag Sharma was appointed by KCR as the advisor to the government on police, law and order, and crime control. His tenure was extended by three years in 2020.

Sharma, a 1982-batch IPS officer, previously worked as the Hyderabad CP.

However, Sharma was not the first person to tender his resignation after the change in the government. Noted IPS officer T Prabhakar Rao, an officer on special duty in the Special Intelligence Branch of the Telangana Police, submitted his resignation on Monday, the day after the election result.

Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TS-Genco) and Transmission Corporation of Telangana Ltd (TS-Transco) Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhakar Rao tendered his resignation the same day.

Retired IAS officer and cultural and media advisor to the government KV Ramana Chary, and Task Force OSD P Radha Kishan Rao, who was transferred by the Election Commission after the Model code of Conduct kicked in, have also resigned.

Transco chairman Devulapalli Prabhakar Rao, Planning Board Vice-Chairman B Vinod Kumar, the chief minister’s Public Relations Officer Jwala Narasimha Rao Vanam.

But, top officials like the chief minister’s Chief Advisor Somesh Kumar, Chief Government Advisor Rajiv Sharma, and advisor SK Joshi are yet to make a decision.

With Revanth taking charge as the chief minister on Thursday, more resignations and reshuffles in the top bureaucratic offices are expected in the coming days.
