In response to allegations of seeking a ministerial position for his son and accepting any portfolio for himself, former Telangana Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader K Jana Reddy clarified his stance on Monday, 11 December.
He asserted that he would not participate in the Lok Sabha elections and would offer advice to the Congress only if it was sought of him.
There was a meeting between newly-elected Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the Congress veteran on Monday at the latter’s residence in Banjara Hills.
During the meeting, Jana Reddy felicitated the chief minister, and both leaders engaged in a conversation where the former informed that he had given a piece of advice on how to start ruling the state immediately.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Jana Reddy emphasised the importance of leaders fulfilling their promises and making decisions collectively for the welfare of the people.
He said he believed that his role as a senior leader was to provide guidance and support to the party in working towards the aspirations of the people of Telangana.
Jana Reddy also clarified his position on joining the government, stating: “I see no purpose in entering the government without participating in elections. The ones who are expecting me to join should also tell me how I can join active politics.”
He affirmed his readiness to consider a Lok Sabha election ticket from Nalgonda if the Congress put forth the proposal, citing his extensive experience and service to the people over the years. However, he said that he would not actively pursue such a position.
Highlighting his son Kunduru Jayaveer’s recent victory in the Nagarjuna Sagar assembly elections, Jana Reddy emphasised that neither he nor his son was seeking a ministerial position in the state.
“My son Kunduru Jayaveer has won the Assembly election from Nagarjuna Sagar, but neither of us is asking for any minister position because he is still a junior in the Congress party,” he said.
He concluded by stating that he would advise the Congress only if approached, indicating a willingness to contribute based on the party’s needs.
Meanwhile, Jana Reddy also spoke on the health of former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
“KCR’s health news was disheartening. I paid a visit but he was taking a rest. I interacted with KT Rama Rao and Harish Rao, concurring that KCR should recuperate and give suggestions to the Opposition parties, and that his expertise is necessary for Telangana,” he said.
