An assistant police sub-inspector (ASI), who was part of Telangana Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy’s security detail, shot himself dead with his service pistol at Srinagar Colony in the Banjara Hills police station limits on Sunday, 5 November.
The ASI, identified as Mohammed Fazil, working with the Armed Reserve Police under the Rachakonda Commissionerate, was in charge of the minister’s police escort.
On Sunday around 6.45 am, Fazil’s daughter dropped him near the minister’s house in Srinagar Colony.
“As today is Sunday, the shops were closed. Fazil shot himself with his gun on the road. He was injured on his head. He was rushed to Osmania Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead,” DCP West Zone Joel Davis told South First.
On receiving the information, senior police officers arrived at the scene. Education Minister Sabitha Reddy also visited the spot.
Family members told the police that Fazil had been facing financial challenges and might have been depressed.
“He has two three daughters and a son. He had been struggling financially for the past few months. Recently, a nationalised bank had rejected his application for a loan,” Davis said.
The officer refuted rumours that the deceased had been under pressure from private loan apps.
