Revanth Reddy with Sonia Gandhi

The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the TPCC adopted a resolution on Monday, 18 December, requesting former AICC president Sonia Gandhi to contest from the Medak Lok Sabha constituency in the state in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The PAC, which met for the first time after the Congress came to power in the state, expressed its gratitude to her for awarding a separate Telangana state in 2014.

The meeting, attended by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, his deputy Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and ministers Thummala Nageswara Rao and N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the PAC would remain indebted to her for the creation of Telangana.

Indira Gandhi was elected to the seventh Lok Sabha from both Rae Bareli (UP) and Medak (then in Andhra Pradesh) in January 1980.

She won both seats, but retained Medak, vacating Rae Bareli. She represented Medak until her assassination on 31 October, 1984.

Speaking to reporters on the resolutions adopted at the PAC, former minister Shabbir Ali said it was one of the three resolutions adopted at the meeting.

He said that the chief minister would make a statement on six guarantees in the Assembly. “The meeting discussed the six guarantees,” he said.

The former minister said that the chief minister had assured to fill the nominated posts as early as possible. “At the PAC, ministers were appointed as in-charges [of Lok Sabha constituencies,” Ali said.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is in charge of Mahabubnagar and Chevella.

The in-charges for the other constituencies are:

The deputy chief minister briefed the PAC about the status of the state’s finances. Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy gave an account of the irregularities in the execution of irrigation projects under the BRS rule.

Though the government had spent thousands of crores, no additional ayacut had been created, the minister told the PAC.
