The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) discussed in detail the current political situation and strategies to be adopted in future in view of the Assembly election in the state.
At a meeting chaired by Congress party state affairs in-charge Manikrao Thakre at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Sunday, 23 July, the party leaders underscored the need for conducting a bus yatra across the state to expose the failures of the BRS government.
The move is expected to help the party not only to corner the ruling party but also sends a message among the cadre that all the party leaders are united.
The same was discussed during the meeting held at the residence of Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on 20 July with senior leaders including Thakre, TPCC president A Revanth Reddy and others attending.
During a chit-chat with media persons on Sunday, Venkat Reddy said he advised the leaders at the PAC meeting to take up bus yatra from 15 August.
“We aim to expose failures of the BRS government. We want go ahead like Karnataka where Congress won the Assembly elections a few months ago and came to power,” he said.
He further stated that the high command will be taking a final decision regarding issuing tickets to the party candidates during elections.
Minutes before the commencement of the PAC meeting, a large number of followers of former MP Ponnam Prabhakar assembled at Gandhi Bhavan and registered their protest for not including his name in the 26-member Telangana Pradesh Election Committee announced a few days ago.
Irate followers of Prabhakar said injustice was meted out to Prabhakar who is in the party for decades. As an MP, he played a key role in obtaining a separate statehood following the Telangana movement.
Senior leaders, however, pacified them stating that justice would be rendered to Prabhakar in the committees that would be formed in future in view of Assembly elections in Telangana.
The exclusion of Prabhakar’s name in the list led to backlash with his followers threatening to take out rallies to protest against the decision not to include his name in the committee.
