Telangana Congress holds rally to Raj Bhavan, demands JPC inquiry into Modi-Adani scandal

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) organised a major rally in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 18 December, condemning the “unholy relationship” between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gautam Adani, as well as the violence in Manipur.

The Chalo Raj Bhavan programme, held in response to a nationwide call from the Congress party, saw significant participation from party workers.

Top leaders of the party – including Chief Minister R Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC President B Mahesh Kumar Goud, and Telangana Congress in-charge Deepadas Munsi – led the demonstrators.

The procession began at the Indira Gandhi statue on Necklace Road and concluded at Raj Bhavan. The chief minister sat on the road and raised slogans alongside other party leaders.

Revanth Reddy demands probe into Adani scandal

Addressing the crowd near Raj Bhavan, the chief minister declared that the party would organise a dharna at Rashtrapati Bhavan if the Centre failed to establish a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the Adani issue. He accused the Union government of forcing businesses to “grease the palms” of those in power.

“Adani and Modi together had lowered the image of the nation which was built assiduously by the Congress,” Reddy said.

He insisted that the government form a JPC to investigate the Adani scandal, citing the findings of US probe agencies that alleged Adani paid bribes to the Indian government. “Modi is trying to protect Adani. The NDA will not form a JPC because, if it did, Adani would have gone to jail,” Reddy said.

BRS under fire for its silence

He also accused the BRS of remaining silent on Adani’s actions due to its submission to the BJP. “The pink party has to spell out its stand – whether it is on the BJP’s side or on the side of the people. [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi and KCR (K Chandrashekar Rao) are two sides of the same coin,” he added.

The Chief Minister also said that if the BRS agreed, the Congress was ready to discuss the Modi-Adani equation in the Assembly. “Let us move a resolution condemning Adani’s corruption. The Congress will ensure punishment to Adani in the people’s court,” the chief minister stated.
