Hurdles hampering the construction of the southern part of the 182-km Regional Ring Road (RRR) around Hyderabad have been cleared after Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday, 21 February.
In a one-and-half-hour presentation, Revanth Reddy underscored the need for early action on the proposals. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkatreddy accompanied the chief minister.
After the presentation, Gadkari asked the officials concerned for proposals to declare the southern portion of the RRR as a national highway. The Centre has already declared the northern part of the project as a national highway.
Revanth Reddy also asked the minister to upgrade several highways in Telangana to national highways.

The Union minister assured the chief minister that the Centre would bear the expenses for the removal of buildings and electric poles in the Choutuppal-Bhongir-Toopran- Sangareddy-Kandi section of the RRR (North).
This has been hanging fire for the past 10 months after the Centre insisted that the state should bear the expenses to declare it a national highway (North).
The chief minister drew Gadkari’s attention to a letter that his government had written to the Centre, consenting to bearing the expenses.
When the issue was brought to Gadkari’s notice, the Union Minister reportedly got enraged and asked his department officials to explain why they had insisted on the payment of expenses.
He then told Revanth Reddy that the Centre would bear the expenses and that the state need not pay for the removal of electric poles and other structures.
The Union minister asked Revanth Reddy to expedite the process of land acquisition for the RRR.
The chief minister also requested Gadkari to widen the present four-lane Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway into six lanes and to four-lane the Hyderabad-Kalwakurthy highway.
The Union minister responded positively to the requests. He suggested the chief minister send proposals for releasing funds under the Construction of Rural Infrastructure Fund.
