Synopsis: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday said the government would form a Cabinet sub-committee to examine the Mudiraj community’s demand to move from the BC-D to the BC-A category, citing the need for reliable population data. Speaking at the Pandaga Sayanna Jayanti event in Hyderabad, he said the state’s caste census would help address concerns over undercounting and directed BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to pursue the community’s demand for an MLC seat.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday, 22 October, said his government will set up a Cabinet sub-committee to examine the Mudiraj community’s demand to be shifted from the Backward Classes (BC)-D category to BC-A. He said the next general election as crucial and said Bahujans would be empowered when Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister.

Speaking at the Pandaga Sayanna Jayanti event in Hyderabad, he said the Cabinet would take up the Mudiraj community demand at the next meeting. He said earlier governments could not make the change because reliable data on the community’s population was missing.

Revanth pointed to the caste census his government carried out, a century after the British-era count, saying it had given every community the confidence to speak up. He said any caste that feels it has been undercounted can submit details, and the figures will be corrected.

He said the Congress party made Mudiraj leader Vakiti Srihari the DCC chief, then fielded him as an MLA candidate and later made him a minister. He also said the party gave Neelam Madhu a Lok Sabha ticket.

The Chief Minister asked BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to raise the community’s demand for an MLC seat with TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud, and said it was his job to ensure Mudirajs share power in the government.

Paying tribute to Sayanna, a Nizam-era figure who rose against landlords, Revanth said he seized land from the poor, formed a squad to resist them, shared grain with villagers and funded marriages of poor girls. He said although Sayanna was killed unjustly, his songs are still sung during sowing and harvest. Revanth announced that the government will install statues of Sayanna and Doddi Komuraiah on Tank Bund.

Listing his government’s welfare record, he said fine rice now reaches 3.48 crore people through PDS, Indiramma houses are being built in every village, and SC sub-categorisation has been implemented. He added that schemes launched by former Chief Ministers NT Rama Rao, Chandrababu Naidu, YS Rajasekhara Reddy and K Chandrashekar Rao continue alongside expanded ones.
