Synopsis: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday repeated his government’s promise to make one crore women “crorepatis” by 2034, saying his life would be “truly fulfilled” if he achieved the target during his tenure. Marking his 57th birthday in his Kodangal constituency, Reddy urged women to ensure their daughters pursued higher education and said his government had facilitated ₹79,000 crore in bank loans for women in 34 months.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy marked his 57th birthday on Sunday, 8 November, with women’s Self-Help Group (SHG) members in Kodangal, his Assembly constituency, and used the occasion, which coincided with Diwali this year, to repeat his government’s promise to make one crore women “crorepatis” by 2034.

At the event, Reddy said his life would be “truly fulfilled” if he managed to achieve this during his tenure as Chief Minister, adding that he had nothing more to aspire to personally. He said about 70 lakh women were now SHG members and the government wanted that number to reach one crore.

As part of his official three-day tour of the Kodangal constituency, Reddy inaugurated educational institutions, primary healthcare centres, a science museum and several other development works in Doulatabad, Kosgi, Hakimpet and Dudyala.

Reddy said the government had sanctioned 4.5 lakh fresh Cheyutha pensions, 3.5 lakh of them for widows and single women. It was also covering every eligible weaver and toddy tapper beneficiary.

‘Improved livelihoods and economic opportunities’

The Chief Minister said the government had facilitated ₹79,000 crore in loans through banks for women in 34 months. He said women’s groups now stitched uniforms for government school students, a business he valued at ₹150-200 crore a year, and had been made partners in petrol bunks and solar power generation. He added that women also ran the Indiramma Canteens in the Secretariat and other government offices.

The Chief Minister said Indiramma houses were being registered in women’s names, while free bus travel, benefiting about 37 lakh women a day, had helped the Road Transport Corporation (RTC) move towards profitability.

Urging women to ensure their daughters pursued higher education, Reddy said the next generation must be spared the struggles they had faced and that the government would stand by them.

“Women are the ones who look after the needs of the entire household, without expecting anything in return. A household thrives only when the woman holds the reins,” he said.

The Chief Minister also took aim at Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KTR, alleging that he had forced his sister, K Kavitha, out of the family. He asked the BRS to explain what it had delivered during its decade in office.
