Earlier in the day, the chief minister asked South Central Railway General Manager (GM) Arun Kumar to come up with project reports for laying the Vikarabad-Krishna railway line.

The chief minister told the GM, who had called on him at the Secretariat, to expedite the Vikarabad-Krishna railway project, which is still in the proposal state.

He said that the project lay neglected and that it should at least now be given the importance that it deserved. He pointed out that once the line is in place, the area would witness economic development.

Meanwhile, the state government has issued orders for a probe by the Vigilance Department into the factors that led to the sinking of the piers of the Medigadda Barrage, which is part of the multi-stage Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).

Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the government had already written to the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court to spare a judge to conduct a judicial inquiry into the fiasco.

After the orders were issued, Vigilance Department officials conducted searches at the Irrigation Department offices that concern the Medigadda project.

The state government is keen on understanding why the piers had sunk and who should be held responsible for them.

It has already given a presentation on the Medigadda project site for people to understand the alleged irregularities that had taken place in its construction.
