Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday, 18 December, asked officials to identify anywhere between 500 and 1000 acres of land in between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Hyderabad to be developed into new industrial areas.
Speaking at a review meeting with officials of the municipal administration and industries at the secretariat, the chief minister said that the lands that needed to be acquired should be within 50-100 km from the airport, national highways, and state highways.

The chief minister said he wanted the officials to take enough care that the lands to be identified for industrial purposes should not be agricultural. They should be fallow lands, not fit for cultivation.
This would ensure that the farmers’ interests would not be hurt. The plan was to decentralise development and reduce pollution levels drastically.
Revanth Reddy wanted to know to what extent lands had been allotted to industries, and which of them used the lands for the purpose they were allotted.
He wanted to know if the lands were being used for any purpose other than industrial activities.
The chief minister said: “I want to accord top priority to the decentralisation of industrial development. The previous government had allotted lands liberally to several industrial houses. But have the industries come up? What is the present status of these lands? I want a comprehensive report on the use of lands allotted for industrial purposes.”
He underscored the need for priority to industries that polluted the environment the least. He wanted alternatives found for the industrial areas in Nacharam, Jeedimetla, and Katedan.
He asked the officials to study the practices in force in the Middle East and European countries to set up companies that make drugs in bulk.
He said the officials should accord priority to fallow lands in all the nine erstwhile districts in the state for developing them into industrial areas. He said that such areas should be located far away from residential areas.
This would help keep land prices down, and their owners would also be willing to part with them. He wanted the officials to encourage solar power generation instead of thermal power for industries.
The chief minister wanted the officials to prepare plans for developing model villages. He inquired into the status of the IDPL lands in Balanagar in Hyderabad and sought a comprehensive report on them.
Those who attended the review meeting included Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Chief Secretary A Santha Kumari and the officials of the Industries and Municipal Administration Departments.
