Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday, 22 November, targeted state Congress president A Revanth Reddy in his home constituency of Kodangal, calling him a “land grabber” and taking serious exception to the grand old party’s insistence that the Dharani portal should go.
Addressing election meetings at Kodangal, Tandur, and Parigi, the chief minister said: “In Kamareddy, the people have decided to inflict a humiliating defeat on Revanth Reddy. In Kodangal, too, the punishment to him should be no less.”
“Revanth Reddy has resorted to land grabbing indiscriminately in this district. Now he says that he would take down Dharani and replace it with Bhumatha. No one one knows if it would become Bhumatha for the Congress leaders. Telangana should be rid of people like Revanth Reddy who has no service motto,” the chief minister said.
KCR said if Dharani goes, along with it the Rythu Bandhu subsidy amount would also go.
“We are using Dharnai to credit Rythu Bandu subsidy amount into the bank accounts of the farmers. If Dharani goes, it signals the return of the days of middlemen who had earned the dubious distinction of being the farmers’ tormentors,” he said.
He also took the exception to the Congress plan to re-introduce the old system — which means the return of the VRO (Village Revenue Officer) regime. There would be VROs and patwaris, he said, adding: “You will have to run from pillar to post for resolution of any of your land-related problems.”
At Parigi, the chief minister said that what all he is interested in the economic empowerment of farmers.
“This is the quintessence of the Bangaru Telangana concept. I want every farmer to have enough money to invest in his crop without having to depend on anyone. I am working towards this end. It may take another 10 to 15 years, but I will do it,” the chief minister said.
He clarified that he was not craving for power.
“The Congress leaders think that I am fighting to retain political power. With your blessings, I have become chief minister twice. I have no desire to continue. If I am fighting the elections, it is because I want to work for your welfare.
“Poverty should disappear, and literacy should reach the 100 percent mark. Telangana should first among all the other states in all economic parameters,” he said.
The chief minister promised housing to all the deserving sections of society and that it would be taken up on mission mode after coming back to power for the third time.
