With the Lok Sabha elections fast approaching, the BJP is getting its act together from soup to nuts to face it.

The Ayodhya frenzy has already set the tone for the elections and the Telangana state unit of the saffron party is out to take full advantage of it.

Though the frenzy is not as pronounced as it is in the North, the state party leaders, nonetheless, are trying to build the necessary ambience to make the job easy when they get to fight the elections.

The leaders, in pursuance of the national call, are now engaged in Ram temple-related programmes, including cleaning of temples. Union Minister and party state president G Kishan Reddy is leading the saffron brigade to create the necessary ambience.

Election notification might be out soon

Ayodhya campaign is only set to become more acute in the backdrop of the reports from Delhi that the election notification might be out during the latter part of February or in the first week of March.

Keeping in view the not-so-encouraging results the party had scored in the recent Telangana Assembly elections — it won only one eight of the 119 Assembly seats — the party leaders want to make the most of Ram sentiment and win as many of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state as possible.

To administer a fresh dose of adrenalin into the veins of the party workers, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda are expected to visit Telangana soon to prepare them for the elections.

The party has set itself a target of 400 seats across the nation. Amit Shah had already asked the Telangana BJP that it has to win not less than 10 seats and claim 35 percent of the vote share.

Reconstitution of district-level dispensations

To tone up the party, Kishan Reddy has recently reconstituted the district-level dispensations of the party.

In the reconstitution exercise, he replaced presidents for some of the districts while retaining the incumbents in others.

The party announced the names of presidents for 35 districts (the party does not go by revenue districts) and appointments to three more district units is pending. They are: Adilabad, Mahabubabad, and Bhupalpally.

The BJP sources said that the reconstitution of the district committees was done after considering several factors that led to the party not faring well in the recent Assembly elections. Those who were replaced included those who are suspected to have worked against the party’s interests.

The party leaders have focused on the Lok Sabha seats where the party is weak and is trying to make it strong by inducting leaders from other parties.

BJP national secretary and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar and former MLA Eatala Rajender have been entrusted with the job of landing big fish.

They hope to do it since it is Lok Sabha elections and as the party’s image is at a new high now, it may not be difficult for them to entice leaders from other parties.

Focus on seats where party is weak

The party is understood to have concluded that there are at least 14 Lok Sabha seats where the party is weak. The party is looking for leaders of some substance in constituencies including Peddapally, Warangal, Zaheerabad, Nagarkurnool, Khammam, and Nalgonda.

It is looking at former MPs and leaders who have some sway in these constituencies.

Meanwhile, the party is understood to have decided to finalise the candidates for the Lok Sabha seats much early where there is no keen competition.

It is also trying to go by survey reports while finalising the candidates. The party is preparing to meet the beneficiaries of central schemes and explain to them how the Union government was coming to their rescue.

This is a follow-up of the Vikasit Bharat campaign, which aimed to explain to the people the welfare schemes that the Union government had rolled out for them.

Apart from this, they would also explain the greatness of the Ram temple at Ayodhya, and how committed the BJP was to build the temple.
