Bandi Sanjay demolish secretariate dome

After Karnataka, the politics over “domes” has found its way to Telangana.

Telangana BJP President Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Friday, 10 February, said that if the saffron party comes to power in the state, it would demolish the “domes” of the newly constructed secretariat building which, he contended, “reflect the culture of the Nizams”.

The BJP state chief also said that the BJP government would wipe out all structures from the time of the Nizams’ rule that, according to him, “are symbols of slavery”.

He was speaking at a street-corner meeting of the party in the Old Bowenpally area of the city as part of its ‘Praja Gosa-BJP Bharosa’ programme.

He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, to appease Asaduddin Owaisi of the AIMIM and his Muslim supporters, had turned the new secretariat building into a mausoleum like the Taj Mahal.

‘First demolish Gujarat Assembly building’

Reacting to the BJP president’s statement, Krishank Manne, spokesman for the ruling BRS, told South First that Bandi Sanjay was probably thinking that he has a PhD in architecture.

“Before talking about demolishing BR Ambedkar Secretariat of Telangana, he can… demolish the Karnataka Assembly building, or Mysore Palace, which was built by a Hindu king, Supreme Court building and, most importantly, he should ask the permission of his leader Narendra Modi to demolish the Gujarat Assembly — all these buildings also have domes,” said Krishank.

Krishank also pointed out that the Telangana Secretariat had been built with no contribution from either the Union government or the BJP.

On the question of appeasing Owaisi, he said the AIMIM leader appreciated the work of the Telangana government.

“What is wrong in that? We have named the secretariat after the father of Constitution, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar. We have also asked the government of India to rename Parliament building in the name of Baba Saheb Ambedkar,” said Krishank.

He underlined that the Centre and the BJP have made no contribution toward building any infrastructure in Telangana.

“No IIM, not a single medical or nursing college… what is their contribution to Telangana’s construction?” asked Krishank.

Inauguration on 17 February

The muhurat for the inauguration of the new and ultra-modern state secretariat in Hyderabad has been fixed for 11:30 am on 17 February, the birthday of Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao.

The chief minister himself will declare the secretariat open at the auspicious hour, flanked by several national leaders.

KCR has invited national leaders like Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, who is representing Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, JD(U) President Lalan Singh, and Dr BR Amdedkar’s grandson Prakash Ambedkar.

This is the second event where KCR will be seen with national leaders — the previous one being the BRS public meeting at Khammam on 18 January in which Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi, Bhagwant Singh Mann of Punjab, and Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala participated.

Also present was former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
