Telangana BJP

Amidst simmering tension that simply refuses to go away, the BJP high command has summoned state party president Bandi Sanjay Kumar to New Delhi, apparently to discuss the outcome of deliberations held with the party “rebels” — MLA Eatala Rajender and former MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy.

Both Rajender and Rajagopal Reddy stayed on in New Delhi after their meeting on Saturday, 24 June, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party national president JP Nadda, where they aired their grievances and suggested the way forward for the BJP in Telangana if it was keen on ousting Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s ruling BRS party in the state.

Just a day after receiving a pat on the back from Nadda for successfully organising his public meeting in Nagarkurnool district, Bandi Sanjay left for New Delhi on Monday, 26 June.

Antoginists to meet?

His visit assumes significance as Rajender and Rajagopal Reddy have been staying away from party activities for the last few days — in the latest instance, preferring to stay on in Delhi rather than attend Nadda’s Nagarkurnool event.

On receiving information that Rajender and Rajagopal Reddy were not active in party programmes, the high command had called them to the national capital and held discussions with them on Saturday.

The duo had skipped “Intintiki BJP” programme organised by the party across the state a few days ago to explain the development and welfare programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last nine years

Amit Shah and Nadda are now expected to hold a detailed meeting with Bandi Sanjay, Rajender, and Rajagopal Reddy to sort out differences between them.

The high command is expected to convey a message to them, asking them bury their differences and fight the BRS government in a united manner in the run-up to the year-end Assembly elections.

Eatala, Rajender express their concerns

In their meeting, Eatala and Rajagopal — lateral entrants to the party from the BRS and the Congress, respectively, who are at odds with the BJP’s old guard in the state that is steeped in RSS ideology — are said to have also expressed concern over the perception that is gaining ground that the saffron party is going soft on the Telangana ruling party.

After the drubbing it received in the recently-held Assembly elections in Karnataka, the BJP morale in Telangana seems to have been affected, and the behavior of senior leaders like Eatala Rajender and Rajagopal Reddy has only added to its problems.

Rajender began maintaining a strategic silence and not actively attending BJP programmes after a few senior leaders expressed displeasure over him leaking to the media that he would be asked to head the campaign in Telangana.

Rajagopal Reddy is staying away from the party programmes as his brother and Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy is trying to bring him back to Congress and, accordingly, holding consultations with the high command in New Delhi.
