Telangana appoints CV Anand as Director General of Police, replacing Shivdhar Reddy

Synopsis: The Telangana government has appointed 1991-batch IPS officer CV Anand as Director General of Police, replacing B Shivdhar Reddy, who will retire on 30 April. Shivdhar Reddy is likely to be appointed Advisor to the Chief Minister according to sources. 

The Telangana government has appointed 1991-batch IPS officer CV Anand as Director General of Police, replacing B Shivdhar Reddy, who is set to superannuate on 30 April.

The General Administration Department notified the appointment in GO Rt No. 553 on Tuesday, 28 April. Anand, currently serving as Special Chief Secretary (Home) since September 2025, has been transferred and posted as DGP with effect from the date he assumes charge. He is expected take charge in the first week of May.

The order follows UPSC guidelines and the Empanelment Committee’s recommendations.

Shivdhar Reddy, a 1994-batch officer who has had a relatively short stint in the top post, is likely to be appointed Advisor to the Chief Minister, sources said.

Anand has served as Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad; Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad; and Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau. He has also held additional charge as Director General (Vigilance & Enforcement).

He is a recipient of the Police Medal for Gallantry and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
