Synopsis: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau registered a disproportionate assets case against Mood Kishan, Deputy Transport Commissioner of Mahabubnagar district, for allegedly amassing assets far beyond his known sources of income during his service.

The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday, 23 December, registered a disproportionate assets (DA) case against Mood Kishan, Deputy Transport Commissioner of Mahabubnagar district, for allegedly amassing assets far beyond his known sources of income during his service.

The case was booked under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). While the officially documented value of the assets detected so far has been pegged at ₹12.72 crore, unofficial estimates suggest that the total market value could run into several hundreds of crores.

As part of the operation, ACB officials conducted simultaneous searches on 23 December at the officer’s residence in Secunderabad and 11 other locations across the state linked to his family members and associates.

Raids reveal disproportionate assets

According to sources, the raiding teams reached Kishan’s residence early on Tuesday morning. Anticipating the raid, the officer allegedly remained in the bathroom for a considerable period before allowing officials to begin the search.

Investigators believe that Kishan, having received prior information about the operation, shifted gold ornaments to another location in Secunderabad and transferred asset-related documents to relatives. The ACB, however, recovered the gold jewellery and relevant documents during the searches.

During the raids, officials said they unearthed substantial movable and immovable properties, including a 50 percent share in Lahari International Hotel at Nizamabad; a 3,000-square-yard commercial space housing Royal Oak furniture showroom in the same town; two flats in Ashoka Township, Nizamabad; 31 acres of agricultural land under the jurisdiction of Nizampet Tahsildar in Sangareddy district; and 10 acres of commercial land within Nizamabad municipal limits.

The searches also led to the detection of a polyhouse and shed spread over 4,000 sq ft in Nizampet Mandal of Sangareddy district, bank deposits amounting to ₹1.37 crore, gold ornaments weighing approximately 1,000.4 grams, and two high-end vehicles — a Honda City and a Toyota Innova Crysta.

The ACB said that further investigation is underway to trace additional assets and establish the exact sources of the funds.
