Synopsis: A survey carried out by Peoples Pulse for South First reveals concerning performance ratings for Telangana’s legislators. Only two Congress ministers rank among the top 10 performers. BRS legislators, too, are seen as poor performers by people. Among the top 10, BRS dominates with five MLAs, followed by Congress (2), BJP (2), and AIMIM (1).
In what could be a matter of serious concern requiring introspection by the ruling Congress in Telangana, only two of its ministers figure in the top 10 “performers” among the 118 legislators in Telangana, with a good number of them being rated as “bad” or just about “average”.
Interestingly, though, the Opposition Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is placed no better, with many of its legislators also failing the performance test.
The interesting findings came out in a survey conducted by Peoples Pulse, a research agency, for South First.
The survey was conducted from 28 March to 3 April across 118 assembly constituencies (excluding Kodangal, represented by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy).
In each assembly constituency, 450 to 500 samples were collected through Computerized Assistant Telephonic Interviews (CATI) / IVRS.
In this survey, men and women participated equally. This survey was conducted only on the aspect of how an MLA’s performance has been, and not on who will win or lose in those constituencies.
Cutting across party lines, people found that the performance of more than two-thirds of the sitting legislators of Telangana is “bad” or just about “average”.
Of the 118 MLAs, only 24 have been rated as “good”. Meanwhile, only two from the ruling Congress, both of them ministers— D Sridhar Babu and Uttam Kumar Reddy- figured in the list of top 10 performers.
The survey further revealed that the performance of 36 MLAs is “bad”, while 58 MLAs have been rated as “average” or “okay”.
Among the ruling Congress MLAs, the survey revealed that the performance of seven MLAs is “good”. 20 MLAs have been rated as “bad”, while the performance of 37 MLAs was found to be “average”.
Concerning MLAs belonging to the BRS, only 12 are rated as “good”. The performance of 13 MLAs was found to be “bad”, and that of 13 MLAs “average”.
As for the BJP, who represent eight constituencies, the performance of three MLAs is “good”, one is “bad”, and four are “average”. Among the seven AIMIM MLAs, two are rated as “good”, two as “bad”, while the performance of three MLAs is “average”. The lone MLA belonging to CPI is “average”.
Among those figuring in the top 10 from all parties, five belong to BRS, two to the ruling Congress party, two to the BJP, and one to the AIMIM.
Harish Rao from BRS is in the first position, former Chief Minister and opposition leader KCR in the 2nd position, Manthani MLA and Minister Sridhar Babu in the 3rd position, AIMIM floor leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi at 4th place, and former Minister and Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy is at the 5th position.
