Revanth Reddy, it is learnt, has complained to senior leaders in the party high command as to how ministers are conspiring against him — and presented a transcript of the conversation between the ministers as a proof!
Synopsis: Ministers in the Revanth Reddy Cabinet are worried that allegations of them being snooped on could be true. Here’s why:
Ministers in the Telangana Congress government are an insecure lot these days. The reason: Read this script, all real and not meant for a movie.
A senior Telangana minister, relaxing in his bedroom at his bungalow, dialled a fellow minister for what turned out to be a conversation that landed him in trouble.
The other minister, too, was in his bedroom in his bungalow. The conversation lasted for a little over an hour. Having poured out each other’s anguish, the two ministers, who hail from the same district, retired for the day.
What they did not anticipate was the conversation, almost verbatim, reaching the ears of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The chief minister, in turn, deployed another minister, seen as his Man Friday, to talk to one of the two involved in the conversation. Soon, the Man Friday and the shocked minister made their way to the chief minister’s residence.
The scene is not from any James Bond movie, but one that is playing out in real time in the Congress-ruled Telangana. For all its talk and leaks about how “hundreds of phones” were tapped during the previous rule of Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS), South First has authoritative information that most ministers in the Revanth Reddy Cabinet are being snooped on.
When the “affected” minister went to meet the chief minister along with the latter’s Man Friday, he was shocked to realise that the top man was able to recollect most parts of the conversation. “Why are you joining hands with him (the other minister)? Let me know if you have any issues. I will sort them out,” Revanth is said to have told him.
When the minister questioned as to how he (the chief minister) knew what he spoke to a colleague, Revanth’s reply was brutally candid. “As CM, it is only natural that I keep a tab on what you guys are talking, doing, meeting whom, when, and where,” came Revanth’s reply.
The man on the other side of the conversation is eternally seen as a threat by Revanth Reddy. Of late, the chief minister has been openly talking about it as well.
The gist of the conversation between the two ministers – both Reddys — was how long they should continue supporting Revanth and why.
Their grouse was that Revanth is always focused on protecting his interests rather than those of the party. That he was not taking along ministers in day-to-day functioning is another complaint.
The episode did not end with the meeting between the chief minister and the minister concerned. Revanth escalated matters to another level.
The chief minister, it is learnt, has complained to senior leaders in the party high command as to how ministers are conspiring against him — and presented a transcript of the conversation between the ministers as a proof!
One of the two ministers, the principal character in the play, known for his command over English, has also earned the reputation of dashing off well-written, lengthy letters to the high command with a litany of complaints against the chief minister.
At a private meeting with some ministers, the chief minister even taunted him saying, “The English you employ in your complaint is too good. I find it difficult to understand.” In other words, almost every complaint going to Delhi through private channels is finding its way to Revanth via his moles in the national capital.
Following the episode, the ministers involved in the conversation changed their phones, and one of them stopped using it altogether. Those who want to reach him now must dial his gunman or personal secretary to find out his whereabouts. Ministers are completely baffled about how their private conversations are reaching the chief minister’s ears.
Another minister, not involved in this episode, narrated how he has, of late, been noticing the presence of policemen and intelligence officials at the Hyderabad airport whenever he went out, either to Delhi or any other destination.
Except for personal one-on-one meetings, mobile phone conversations have become almost extinct for almost everyone who matters in Telangana politics, both in the ruling and Opposition camps.
