After the police foiled her protest on Raj Bhavan Road amidst high drama four days ago, YSRTP president YS Sharmila on Friday, 2 December, announced that her padayatra would resume on Sunday and end on 14 December.

She made the announcement after making a representation to the Director General of Police (DGP) at his office on the alleged excesses the police were committing against her and her workers in the name of the upkeep of law and order.

The YSRTP leader had to suspend her padayatra after the police arrested her in Lingagiri in the Chennaraopet Mandal in the Warangal Rural district on Monday and brought her back to Hyderabad following a clash between her supporters and the TRS workers in the Warangal district.

Sharmila tried to show Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao how the TRS workers set fire to her bus and damaged a vehicle by taking them to Pragati Bhavan, but was stopped on Raj Bhavan Road and was towed to SR Nagar Police station while she was in the driver’s seat.

She had to stay at the police station there till late in the night and was produced in court, where she obtained bail.

After meeting the DGP, she said she would resume her padayatra, and dared KCR and the TRS government in Telangana to do whatever they could to stop it.

“The YSRTP is like a rising sun. You cannot stop it with your hands. We will continue to fight by being on the side of the people,” she said.

The YSRTP leader, taking exception to the way the police acted when they arrested and produced her in court, said in her presentation to the DGP that the TRS was using the police as vassals to smother any dissent or any agitation by an Opposition party.

“The very fact that the police sought her remand in the court showed their ulterior motive and at whose behest they were working. Will anyone seek remand for a traffic violation?” she asked

Sharmila takes on KCR

Lashing out at the chief minister, she said that he was acting like the chief of the Taliban, gagging the voices of the opposition, and unleashing a reign of terror against the parties that questioned him.

She referred to the TRS leaders saying that they could snuff her out like a bedbug, and that they would not allow her to step out of her house. “Aren’t they the Taliban, and isn’t KCR the Taliban’s president?” she asked.

She said that she would not be cowed down by the TRS workers who were goondas in people’s representatives’ clothing, and said that she would continue to question the government for not keeping the promises the TRS had made to them during the last seven and a half years.

“We will continue to ask the chief minister why agriculture loans have not been waived, why vacancies in government departments have not been filled, why double bedrooms have not been sanctioned to the poor, why unemployment doles were not being paid, and why low-interest loans were not being released to the women,” she said.

“KCR’s family is looting the state. KCR is taking kickbacks from contractors. His daughter is earning money in liquor scams and his son is minting money in the real-estate business. The three have split the state into as many pieces and are continuing to plunder it,” she said.
