Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy at the Jurala Project
With a clear focus on water security, the Telangana government is reviving stalled irrigation projects and accelerating new ones. Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, during his recent visit to the Priyadarshini Jurala Project and Rayalampadu Reservoir in Gadwal, assured that the Jurala Dam remains technically sound and flood-resilient. A budget of ₹100 crore has been sanctioned to construct an alternate bridge for heavy vehicles, and ₹300 crore for a new gantry at Jurala.
The government plans to double Rayalampadu’s capacity from two thousand million cubic feet (TMC) to four TMC, boosting irrigation in the region. Projects like Nettempadu are progressing swiftly, with a completion target of December 2025 and a total outlay of ₹2,051 crore.
Maintenance, desiltation, and modernisation efforts are also underway across major reservoirs. With the recruitment of 11,000 engineers, officials say the government is committed to ensuring every village and farmer has reliable access to water.
