The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Hyderabad is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall on 23-24 July.
There could be thundershowers with intense spells of heavy rainfall, it said in a statement.
This is the second time in the month when IMD has issued a code red alert. Heavy spells of rain returned to central Telangana districts on Wednesday, 20 July, after causing widespread destruction in the northern and eastern districts last week.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Pathur mandal in Medak district recorded the highest rainfall of 267mm over the last 24 hours.
It was followed by Devaruppula (255mm) in Jangaon district and Rajpally (237.8mm) in Medak district.
This year Telangana has received 132 percent excess rain during the monsoon season so far.
Out of 33 districts in the state, 32 have received excess rain of more than 60 percent.
According to the TSDPS, the state’s average cumulative rainfall from 1 June to 1 July was 524.9 mm, whereas the normal is 226.6 mm.
This caused floods in several parts of the state — Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and other districts — and disrupted normal life, with schools and colleges closed for a whole week this month.
The state government has constantly kept the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on alert.
Hyderabad has been put under yellow alert and is likely to witness light to moderate rainfall with an overall cloudy sky. There may be intense spells, along with thundershowers.
On Friday, it rained continuously through the day with many roads inundated throughout the city.
Several low-lying areas turned into water pools and streams with traffic snarls reported in most parts of the city.
