Satyameva Jayate: Congress stands firm against BJP’s conspiracies

While some BJP and NDA leaders engage in corruption and irregularities, the ED turns a blind eye, focusing instead on fabricating cases against Congress and INDIA bloc leaders across states.

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi

Synopsis: Since assuming power in 2014, the Modi government has targeted opposition parties and leaders, pressuring central agencies to fabricate false cases against them. However, the cases will not stand the test of time. Truth will ultimately triumph.

The Narendra Modi-led Union government, rattled by the rising influence of the Congress party, has resorted to vindictive actions against the Gandhi family. As the nation declines under the BJP’s governance, the Central government has started a series of conspiracies targeting Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, who have consistently challenged its authoritarian style.

By weaponising public institutions for political gains, the BJP is systemically undermining its integrity. Since assuming power in 2014, the Modi government has targeted opposition parties and leaders, pressuring agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), and Income Tax (IT) Department to fabricate false cases against them.

Just a week after the 86th All India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Ahmedabad, where the Congress vehemently criticised the BJP’s misuse of public institutions, the ED, without any substantial evidence, included the names of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the chargesheet of the National Herald case.

This move is a clear attempt to intimidate Congress leaders who are steadfastly fighting against the BJP’s anti-people policies.

Divisive tactics wrecking unity

The BJP’s divisive tactics, exploiting caste, religion, region, and language, have fractured national unity. Unemployment has surged to alarming levels, essential commodities have become unaffordable, and despite a global decline in crude oil prices, the central government continues to burden citizens with exorbitant taxes and surcharges. Skyrocketing gas prices and the GST have made life increasingly unbearable for the poor.

The BJP’s policies have favoured large corporate houses, handing over national wealth to a select few while turning a blind eye to major business tycoons who default on massive bank loans and flee the country.

In contrast, the Congress party has consistently advocated for a nationwide caste census to ensure social justice for marginalised and weaker sections, who form a significant portion of India’s population.

While the Congress strives for equitable representation, the BJP is accused of plotting to amend the Constitution and dismantle reservations. As the Congress challenges the Modi government’s anti-people policies, the BJP, gripped by fear, resorts to diversionary tactics by targeting Congress leaders with fabricated cases.

The National Herald case is a prime example of the BJP’s politically motivated vendetta. Recognising the Congress’s growing connect with the masses, the BJP has resurrected baseless allegations to tarnish its image. In 2014, shortly after the BJP came to power, its MP Subramanian Swamy filed a private complaint regarding the National Herald.

Seven years later, in 2021, the Modi government prodded the ED to pursue the case, and in 2025, the agency included the Gandhi family’s names in the chargesheet. The irony is stark: the National Herald, a Congress-affiliated newspaper that shut down in 2008 due to financial distress, received financial support from the party.

The ED, however, has labeled this support as money laundering.

ED as a political weapon

What is the fault in the Congress aiding its publication, the National Herald, during financial hardship? How do Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi personally benefit from this? Where is the scandal? In the absence of any monetary transactions, how can a money laundering case be registered?

It has been alleged that Congress-ruled states funnelled money into the National Herald through advertisements.

It has been alleged that Congress-ruled states funnelled money into the National Herald through advertisements.

The National Herald, burdened with ₹90 crore in debt, was revived through ‘Young India,’ a not-for-profit entity, with complete transparency. Yet, the BJP, driven by political malice, continues to exploit government agencies to target the Congress whenever it suits its agenda.

In the past, the ED interrogated Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other key Congress leaders, including several from Telangana, but failed to unearth any evidence. As the BJP’s grip weakens and the Congress gains public trust, the Modi government has once again deployed the ED as a political weapon.

The BJP’s failure to secure a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections, despite its ‘Ab Ki Baar, Char Sau Paar’ slogan, and the Congress’s assertive stance at the AICC session in Ahmedabad have left the BJP worried. Rahul Gandhi’s focus on Gujarat, a state the BJP considers its stronghold, has further unnerved the Modi government, prompting it to release the ED against the Gandhi family.

Additionally, with the upcoming Bihar elections offering strong prospects for the INDIA bloc, the BJP is using the ED to undermine the Congress and influence electoral outcomes. However, the Congress, backed by the people’s support, remains undeterred, confident that no force can suppress its resolve. The truth will soon prevail.

The National Herald legacy

The BJP, which played no role in India’s freedom struggle, lacks any understanding of the sacrifices made during that era. Instead, it distorts history and denigrates freedom fighters.

The National Herald, founded in 1938 by Jawaharlal Nehru under the Association of Journals Limited (AJL), was a beacon of the independence movement.

With over 5,000 freedom fighters as shareholders and guided by leaders like Gandhi, Nehru, and Patel, the newspaper served as a voice for the Indian people. Its incisive articles, often penned by Nehru, unsettled the British, leading to a temporary ban in 1942.

After assuming the role of India’s first Prime Minister in 1947, Nehru resigned as the newspaper’s board chairman. Despite the National Herald’s pivotal role in the freedom struggle alongside the Congress, the BJP, adept at rewriting history, mirrors the British by targeting the newspaper and the Congress with malicious intent.

Government stooping low

As the Congress responsibly exposes the BJP’s anti-people policies, the Modi government has stooped to personal vendettas against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi’s successful ‘‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’’ and his demand for a caste census have struck a chord with the masses, leaving the BJP scrambling for excuses.

In contrast, the Congress-led Telangana government has set a national example by conducting a scientific caste census and implementing 42% reservations for backward classes. Unable to counter this progress, Prime Minister Modi recently made baseless allegations against the Telangana government during a rally in Haryana. As marginalised communities rally behind the Congress’s demand for social justice, the BJP, desperate and frustrated, resorts to conspiracies through the ED.

Never before has a Central government misused public institutions to the extent witnessed under the BJP. While some BJP and NDA leaders engage in corruption and irregularities, the ED turns a blind eye, focusing instead on fabricating cases against Congress and INDIA bloc leaders across states.

The BJP’s revenge-driven cases, often dismissed in courts, are designed solely to harass the opposition. If the BJP believes it can intimidate Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi with baseless cases, it is gravely mistaken. Armed with public support, the Congress will fight these battles in courtrooms and the public arena, unshaken. Fabricated cases will not stand the test of time. In the end, truth shall prevail — Satyameva Jayate!
