Telangana Congress campaign plans

Sounding the war bugle, Telangana Congress on Saturday, 12 August, launched “Thiragabadadam-Tharimikodadam” (Revolt, Drive Out) — its political campaign targeting the BRS government of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in the run-up to the Assembly elections slated for year-end.

The TPCC finalised the progarmme at a meeting at Gandhi Ideology Centre in Bowenpally in Secunderabad. The aim of the programme is to focus on issues concerning the citizens under the BRS regime and present a platform for them to voice their discontent.

Telangana Congress president A Revanth Reddy said that the party would go into the midst of the people with its Thiragabadadam-Tharimikodadam war cry. The party conducted a “praja (people’s) court”, where KCR was “punished” for “betraying” the people of the state.

“The campaign is being taken up as there is not an iota of social justice anywhere in Telangana,” Revanth Reddy said.

The plan of action

He announced the plan of action for the next one month. The campaign would see more than 10,000 Congress leaders and cadres reaching out to the voters through more than 12,000 gram sabhas and more than 3,000 division meetings.

Besides the blitzkrieg campaign, Telangana Congress workers and leaders will also personally visit 75 lakh households as part of a door-to-door initiative.

At the heart of the campaign lies the unveiling of a “comprehensive charge sheet against the BRS and BJP governments”, outlining instances of mismanagement, policy failures, and unfulfilled promises. This chargesheet will serve as a testament to the concerns accumulated during the government’s tenure.

The Congress made an appeal to people from all walks of life to rally behind the party as it launches the Thiragabadadam-Tharimikodadam postcard and missed call movement. Each postcard will symbolise a citizen’s dissatisfaction with the present administration. To make the campaign more accessible, a dedicated miss call number — 7661 899 899 — has been launched to register support for the campaign.

An official launch through a “praja court”, a symbolic event that mimics courtroom proceedings would be conducted. Telangana Congress leaders will press charges against the BRS government by assuming the roles of prosecutors and witnesses.

A “resolving judgement” to oust the present administration and pave the way for a responsible and responsive government would be read out.

Door-to-door campaign

After the launch, the Congress cadres carrying the torch of change, through a door-to-door initiative, will deliver the charge sheet and postcards to more than75 lakh households across the state.

The party leaders will also conduct local meetings covering over 12,000 gram panchayats and more than 3,000 at the division level. These meetings will serve as fora to discuss the charge sheet.

To ensure accountability at all levels, Congress leaders will conduct the praja courts in all BRS-held constituencies. Here, charge sheets against the party’s incumbent MLAs will be released.

The Thiragabadadam-Tharimikodadam campaign seeks to harness the power of public sentiment and channel it into a force for positive change. The Telangana Congress envisions to champion the rights of the people to hold the government accountable and forge a new era of transparent governance.

‘KCR has become a dictator’

Revanth Reddy recalled how the party’s senior leader Sonia Gandhi had delivered Telangana, honouring the sacrifices of the youths for a separate state, and how KCR, after taking over the reins of the administration of the new state in 2014, had undermined the three cornerstones of the Telangana movement — water, funds, and jobs.

“Over the years, KCR had turned into a dictator,” Revanth Reddy said.

Congress Telangana in charge Manikrao Thakre accused the BRS government of working against the aspirations of the people of Telangana.

About 10 years ago Sonia Gandhi gifted Telangana to its people. KCR, after coming to power, had imposed a clampdown on their aspirations, he said, adding that KCR’s family had looted the state.
