The Telangana CM said that KTR and some other BRS workers' arrogance was making them dare the current government to take action against them.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday, 29 March, said BRS working president KT Ram Rao would have to spend time in Charlapalli prison in Hyderabad if continued to make statements like admitting that phone-tapping may have taken place when the regional party was in power in the state.
Revanth Reddy, also the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief, was speaking at a meeting of Valmiki Boyas and workers of Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad.
He claimed that KTR and some other BRS workers had not shed their streak of arrogance, which was making them dare the current Congress government to take action against them even while admitting to committing crimes.
Revanth Reddy said on the occasion: “If he talks admitting phone tapping, he will have to go to jail and taste prison food.”
He added: “Police are getting to the bottom of the case and gleaning evidence to nail everyone who played a role in phone tapping.”
Revanth Reddy recalled the scope and extent of tapping of phones. “In those days, everyone was afraid of speaking on the phone. Even a wife used to be afraid of speaking to her husband for fear of someone recording their conversation,” he said.
The chief minister then pointed out that it was only after Congress came to power in the state that people began feeling secure about talking on phones.
He said he had warned the police officials not to indulge in phone-tapping as it would blow up in their faces some day.
“They did not listen to me and now their political bosses are not bothering to even look at them even though they are languishing in jail for carrying out their orders,” he said.
The chief minister also said that BRS and BJP were working hand in glove to ensure the defeat of Congress’ Lok Sabha candidates in the Mahabubnagar district.
He wanted to know what BJP leader DK Aruna had achieved for Mahbubnagar to seek the votes of people in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Revanth Reddy said Aruna could not get national project status for Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS).
He added that she also could get a national-level position for herself in the BJP, and workers were given a short shrift.
However, Congress party workers or leaders are never ignored, he said. Mahabubnagar’s Congress leader SA Sampath Kumar would get a good position in the party after the Lok Sabha elections, he said.
