Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said he was focusing on developing Warangal because doing so would be akin to developing half of the state.

Addressing a mammoth public meeting, Praja Palana Vijayotsavam, organised as part of celebrating one year of Congress rule in the state at Hanamkonda on Tuesday, 19 November, the chief minister said he had released ₹6,000 crore for the comprehensive development of Warangal.

“Warangal can rival Hyderabad. As it is the most important city after Hyderabad, we are going to have an airport soon to trigger industrial development,” he said.

“Besides Warangal, the state should have airports at Kothagudem, Ramagundam, and Adilabad also,” Revanth Reddy added.

The chief minister said efforts were being made to derail his efforts to develop the state. He said people obstructing development would be dealt with an iron hand.

“I am trying to develop the state. But every day, there are attempts made to derail my efforts. If they continue doing so, I will send them to jail,” the chief minister said, in an oblique reference to the Opposition BRS.

Paeans to Gandhis

Revanth Reddy 1emembered former prime minister Indira Gandhi as the celebrations coincide with her 107th birth anniversary.

He recalled that she was representing Medak in Lok Sabha when she was assassinated on 31 October 1984. He also praised Sonia Gandhi for delivering the promise of Telangana.

Reacting sharply to Union Minister G Kishan Reddy’s broadside against him that he was doing gulamgiri to Sonia Gandhi, Revanth Reddy said that Kishan Reddy was forgetting that it was she who gave Telangana state.

“Let both of us go to her, wash her feet, and sprinkle the water on our heads. That way you would be expiating a portion of the sin that is committed by doing gulamgiri to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who remains anti-Telangana even today,” he said.

He recalled the prime minister’s remarks that denigrated the creation of Telangana state. Modi had said that the Congress while creating a baby, killed the mother.

He dared former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao — KCR — to come to the Assembly and face him.

Revanth dares KCR

“KCR plunders the state when he is in power and sleeps in his farmhouse when out of it. Let him come to the Assembly and discuss people’s problems if he can,” he dared.

“When in Opposition, one should give constructive suggestions to the government. I am ready to receive them if you have any. Learn from our leader Rahul Gandhi. Though in Opposition, he did not stay at home like you but took out a padayatra throughout the country” Revanth Reddy said.

He vowed that he would not let the plant – KCR – grow again on Telangana soil.

Taking serious exception to KCR’s statement that the people had realised in just 11 months what they had lost under the Congress rule, the chief minister hit back at the former chief minister.

“No one has lost anything in Telangana. Only four people – KCR and his family members – lost their jobs while about 50,000 youths got government employment,” he said.

Revanth Reddy said his government aimed at making each woman in the state a crorepati and accordingly was implementing various programmes.

Govt to fix loan-waiver issues

Women of the state had blessed the Congress party and brought Indiramma Rajyam to Telangana state. “It is our responsibility to rise to their expectations,” he said and recounted the schemes including free rides to women on RTC buses, free power supply of up to 200 units, and LPG cylinder supply at ₹500 each.

Referring to the ₹2 lakh crop loan waiver, the chief minister said he had cleared the loans of the farmers by the last Independence Day as promised by crediting ₹18,000 crore to farmers’ accounts.

“I am aware that some farmers are left out because of technical reasons but our government would address them. But KCR, who made a similar promise, did not keep it in 10 years he was in power,” he said.

He came down heavily on his detractors who said the Kaloji Kshetram in Warangal was constructed when the BRS was in power but inaugurated by Revanth Reddy on Tuesday.

“The BRS government began the construction of the building but did not find time in the 10 years of its rule to complete it. After coming to power, the Congress government had completed it, which is a tribute to the great son of soil and poet Kaloji Narayana Rao, the chief minister said.
