Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday, 8 February, asserted that the government had no role in the allotment of rooms in the Assembly for leaders of political parties.

The chief minister, speaking informally to reporters on the Assembly premises, said that it was the Speaker who had allotted the “small room” to Opposition leader and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao.

He was reacting to the complaint of a BRS delegation to the Speaker earlier in the day that a “small room” had been allotted to KCR in the Assembly.

The delegation reportedly reminded the Speaker that a larger room was allotted to the Opposition leader when the pink party was in power.

The earlier larger room was made available to the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) even during the first session of the Assembly after the recent elections.

But a much smaller room in the outer lobbies was allotted to KCR on Thursday, the delegation said.

When the BRS’ complaint was brought to the notice of the chief minister, he said the allotment of rooms in the Assembly was the prerogative of the Speaker.

Jabs at KCR

Meanwhile, referring to KCR giving the Governor’s address a miss, Revanth Reddy said that it only showed how much concern he had for the state.

The people were anyway forgetting the BRS and KCR fast, he said, adding that he also wished that KCR took part in the Assembly proceedings.

However, the chief minister also threw a barb that KCR was like medicine that was past its expiry date.

He took exception to former minister T Harish Rao deputising for KCR at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting held after the House was adjourned in the afternoon.

He said Harish Rao should have known better. “Doesn’t he know that only members of the BAC should attend the meeting? If this practice is allowed, even KTR’s son Himanshu would be attending the BAC meetings. Are we expected to allow him?”

The Krishna river issue

Revanth Reddy also said that the chief justice of Telangana High Court had told the government that he could not spare a sitting judge to probe the irregularities that took place in the execution of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).

He also said the chief justice had suggested that the government appoint a retired judge to head the probe panel.

He said he would discuss the development in the Cabinet and finalise the next course of action. The state government has already ordered an inquiry into the Mission Bhagiratha project works, he said.

The chief minister also pointed out that the people in the Assembly constituencies in the catchment area of the Krishna river in Telangana had given a verdict against KCR.

They knew very well how committed KCR was to fighting for a just share of the Krishna river waters for the state, he said.

Revanth Reddy also said that the BRS was raking up the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) issue only to divert the attention of the people from the ongoing probe into the disaster of the Medigadda Barrage of the KLIS.
