Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday, 7 March, dares BRS working president KT Rama Rao to stage a “fast unto death” at Indira Park in Hyderabad to bring pressure on the Centre for the release of funds to the state.

The chief minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Rajiv Rahadari (SH 01) elevated corridor at TIMS at Alwal in Secunderabad.

In a tongue-in-cheek manner, he attacked not only KTR but also his father BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao.

Revanth recalled on Thursday: “KCR is known for his famous statement that he would either get Telangana or die in the struggle, and he went on a hunger strike for his demand.”

He added: “Let KTR go on a similar hunger strike at Indira Park, where he will either get funds for the state or die in the process.”

He continued: “The Congress will extend full support and former MLA Mynapapally Hanumantha Rao and his supporters will stand guard to prevent the police from taking him to the hospital in case his health condition deteriorates.”

The chief minister also said there was nothing wrong with being cordial with the Central government for getting projects and funds for the state.

“Earlier, you used to pick quarrels with the Centre for each and everything. This resulted in the Centre turning cold towards the state. It did not get what it deserved. After coming to power, we are trying to straighten the issues,” he said.

‘What did you do?’

The chief minister was also visibly annoyed by KTR’s statement that the Congress government in the state was stealing the credit for the achievements of the previous regime.

“What did you do? The infrastructure that one sees in Hyderabad was developed by the Congress government under the then-chief minister, the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy. It was only then that the metro rail came,” he said.

“If the city became a software and pharmaceutical hub, it was because of the foundation laid by the previous Congress government,” added Revanth.

“In your 10-year regime, Hyderabad has become a hub for drugs, pubs and ganja. Nothing else.”

Revanth Reddy also said that his government was committed to developing Hyderabad as an international city.

“We play politics only during the elections. The only goal before the government now is the state’s all-round development,” he said.

The elevated corridor

The chief minister also said that the Rajiv Rahadari Elevated Corridor project had been hanging fire for years as the Centre and the state remained on a collision course.

This, he claimed, led the Central government to put the project on the backburner, and the people suffered in the process.

Revanth Reddy also said: “Immediately after coming to power, we spoke to the Centre. We met the prime minister and the defence minister, and the projects have come through.”

The chief minister said that after the elevated corridor works were completed, the Medchal area would get a facelift.

“We are able to commence the project after the Centre transferred the defence lands to the state,” he said.

The chief minister said that the elevated corridor would be a gateway to North Telangana.
