Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son Sai Bhagirath allegedly thrashed a student brutally on a university campus in Hyderabad late last year.
The video of the incident is going viral on social media.
Sai Bhagirath is seen apparently insulting the student based on his region and even threatening him against revealing the incident to anyone.
He is also heard claiming that even if the victim complained, no action would be taken against him.
The police have since registered a case in this regard, but are yet to make an arrest.
Meanwhile, Sanjay has said he was willing to hand his son over to the police.
Speaking to South First, a BJP official said that it was indeed Sai Bhagirath in the video, and the incident took place around two months ago at a private university in Hyderabad.
While denying the claims of ragging, the BJP official said that the incident was personal — between the two boys — as the victim in the video had sent some abusive text to one of the girl students who happened to be the sister of a friend of Sai Bhagirath.

Later, a compromise was reached between the accused and victim students and the matter was not escalated to the police as a complaint.
“This is fake propaganda by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders: Sharing a video to your news organisation in which you can see the boy himself is saying Sai Bhagirath hit him for what he had done wrong, and they are all together again,” the BJP’s Telangana State Information & Technology Department in-charge A Venkata Ramana told South First.
He also shared a video of the alleged victim claiming that it was his own fault, and that he was back on better terms with Bhagirath.
Meanwhile, the victim said "the video is totally irrelevant because me and Bhageerath are friends now and we don't have any problems with each other." pic.twitter.com/fncso6G7pk

In the video, the boy stated: “My name is Sri Ram. I misbehaved with the sister of one of Bhagirath’s friends by calling and messaging her at 4 am. Bhagirath got to know about this and came to talk to me. During the conversation, I said a few derogatory things to him, Bhagirath got angry and hit me in a moment of rage.”
However, he also said: “Whatever happened, we are still friends and batchmates. The video in circulation is irrelevant and we all forgot about it. But somebody is trying to make an issue out of it. That video is totally irrelevant because I and Bhagirath are friends now, and we don’t have any problems with each other.”
Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday night criticised the police for registering a case against his son in connection with the incident under the Dundigal Police Station limits.
At a hurriedly called press conference in New Delhi, he said he was ready to hand over his son to the police, who could also use third-degree against him.
It was the responsibility of the police to first call the parents and counsel a child before registering a case under non-bailable sections.
With the registration of the case against his son, the Telangana government wants to derive political mileage out it, he said.
“We are ready to face any consequence,” said Sanjay, recalling that he was one among the several persons who strongly condemned the unnecessary remarks made against the family members of the ruling party leaders.
The police confirmed that a case under Sections 504, 506 and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered against Bhagirath based on a complaint lodged by the college authorities.
As per the complaint, the authorities could identify only Bhagirath, who was seen slapping his classmate in a video that went viral. One more student was also found to be involved in the case, but he is yet to be identified.
A senior police officer said Bhagirath was yet to be arrested as the investigation was still underway. Efforts were on to collect more details about the incident from the college authorities, he added.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders avoided commenting about the incident, saying that it was between two kids and that they were not going to politicise it.
Meanwhile, BRS spokesperson Krishank Manne asked whether the BJP leaders were not aware of the time when the chief minister’s grandson was dragged into a poll campaign earlier.
