The copper plates discovered in Suryapet.
A rare set of 9th-century copper plates has surfaced from a Muslim graveyard in Kodad in the Suryapet district of Telangana. The plates have been sent to the Department of Heritage in Hyderabad for preservation.
Dating to 927 CE, the Sanskrit text in Telugu script was issued by Vengi Chalukya king Vikramaditya II, son of Chalukya Bhima I. Bearing a Varaha seal with the legend “Śri Tribhuvanāṁkuśa,” it traces the dynasty’s lineage and records a land grant for the Bijjēśvara temple in Koṇḍapalli-vishaya.
The inscription notes that Lōkamavva built the temple, Guṇabhūshaṇa installed its deity, and Vinayāditya engraved the plates—closing with the royal note, “Vikramāditya dattah.”
