The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday, October 5, arrested a District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), a health inspector and a private driver in connection with an alleged ₹1 lakh bribe demand involving a physiotherapy centre in Ranga Reddy district.

According to the ACB, the accused are Ranga Reddy DM&HO Swarna Kumari, Health Inspector M Srinivas, and his driver, Maddurikrishnaiah.

The ACB said the accused demanded ₹2 lakh from the complainant and accepted ₹1 lakh as a bribe. The money was allegedly sought for returning the keys of the complainant’s seized physiotherapy centre, which was operating without a DM&HO licence.

The bribe was also allegedly demanded in exchange for not taking further action against the centre and for issuing a new DM&HO licence for the physiotherapy centre, the ACB said.

“The accused (A-3) Sri. Maddurikrishnaiah, Private Driver of AO-2, demanded an amount of Rs. 2,00,000/- and accepted the bribe amount of Rs.1,00,000/- from the complainant for doing official i.e. as a reward for returning the keys of the seized physiotherapy centre of the complainant, and as an undue advantage for not taking any further action against the centre for operating without a DM&HO licence, and also for issuing a new DM&HO licence for the said physiotherapy centre,” the ACB said in its press note.

The agency said the ₹1 lakh bribe was recovered from Maddurikrishnaiah at his instance.

“Thus, the Accused Officers AO-1 & AO-2 performed their duty improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage,” the ACB said.

The three accused have been produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases, Nampally, for judicial remand, the agency said. The case remains under investigation.

The ACB withheld the complainant’s details citing security reasons.
