Synopsis: Rains returned to Hyderabad and Telangana on July 17, ending a brief dry spell but causing traffic woes due to waterlogging. Thalkondapally recorded the highest rainfall at 149.3 mm. The IMD issued a Yellow Alert for July 18, forecasting cloudy skies, light to moderate rain with gusty winds, hazy mornings, and temperatures between 32°C and 22°C.
Breaking the brief dry spell, rains have returned to parts of Hyderabad and Telangana on Thursday, 17 July, bringing relief and traffic woes.
According to the data released by IMD, Thalkondapally in Rangareddy recorded the highest rainfall at 149.3 mm, followed by Balanagar in Mahabubnagar with 123 mm. Other heavily impacted areas included Shamshabad (109.3 mm), Manchal (108.3 mm), and Farooqnagar (108.3 mm) — all in Rangareddy district.
In contrast, the least rainfall was reported from Chennaraopet in Warangal (53.5 mm), Amrabad in Nagarkurnool (53.3 mm), and Valigonda in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri (52.8 mm).
Hyderabad faced significant traffic disruptions due to widespread waterlogging at key junctions and low-lying areas. Affected locations included Chikoti, Masab Tank Flyover, Bible House, Alugaddabavi, and stretches near Hotel King Palace and Bombay Hotel in Ranigunj.

Water stagnation also disrupted movement around OU Camp Office, EFLU, and Tarnaka Junction towards Railway Degree College, as well as Begumpet Police Lines towards Rasoolpura.
In response, personnel from the Disaster Response Force (DRF) and traffic units from Mahankali, Kachiguda, Osmania University, and Chilkalguda were deployed to manage the situation and assist commuters.

The forecast indicates a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers, likely to be accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph in parts of the city.
Hazy conditions are expected during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 32°C and 22°C, respectively. Surface winds are forecast to be Westerlies to North-Westerlies, with speeds around 6–10 kmph.
