Synopsis: Heavy rains returned to Telangana on 27 August, causing floods in Kamareddy and Medak, prompting major rescue efforts and drone aid. Over 500 people were rescued. Train services were disrupted, with multiple cancellations and diversions. Andhra Pradesh faces rain alerts due to a low-pressure system, with warnings for coastal winds and flooding. Authorities urge caution, especially during Ganesh festivities.
After a brief break, rains have returned to Telangana, on Wednesday, 27 August, with Kamareddy and Medak districts being the most affected.
Due to the heavy downpour, people were stranded near the Upper Maneru project, in Rajanna Siricilla district. In a swift relief effort, essential food supplies were airlifted by drones to the people.
Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha and SP Mahesh B Gite said five cattle grazers were trapped near Narmala due to floods. An SDRF team has been deployed to step up rescue operations alongside drone deliveries.
Meanwhile in Medak and Kamareddy, flood rescue teams saved 504 people. In Kamareddy, the Nizamabad SDRF team rescued 9 persons, at Annasagar village, Bhanswada Fire Station saved 5 persons at Gunkul, and Kamareddy Fire Station evacuated 50 persons from GR Colony.
In Medak, Ramayampet Fire Station rescued 350 persons from an SC Women’s Degree College hostel, 10 persons from BC Colony, and 80 persons from an SC & ST Welfare hostel.

Heavy water flows were reported near railway tracks at the Bhiknur – Talmadla section and Akanpet – Medak sections.
Similarly water has reached the top of the Peddacheruvu Bund in Kamareddy’s Bibi Pet Mandal.

The heavy rains have also disrupted train services in the Hyderabad Division, with several trains cancelled, diverted, partially cancelled, or rescheduled due to water overflowing on tracks in the Bhuiknur–Talmalda and Akanpet–Medak sections.

Meanwhile, In Hyderabad, as of 5 PM on Wednesday, both Himayath Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs are receiving steady inflows.
Himayathsagar, with inflows of 1,100 cusecs, is holding water at 1762.80 ft, while one gate has been opened for regulation.
Osmansagar is at 1789.35 ft, close to its full reservoir level, with inflows of 3,200 cusecs and two gates opened. Together, the twin reservoirs are being closely managed to balance rising inflows and controlled outflows.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has issued a fresh warning as a severe low-pressure system persists over the northwest Bay Of Bengal, near the Odisha coast.
According to Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the Authority, the system is expected to move slowly towards Odisha in the next 24 hours, triggering moderate to heavy rainfall across several districts of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, 28 August.
Gusty coastal winds reaching speeds of 40–60 kmph are also expected, prompting an advisory for fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea. Organizers of Vinayaka Mandapams have been urged to take extra precautions in view of the weather.
Alluri Seetharamaraju, Eluru, and NTR districts are likely to witness moderate to heavy rains, while light to moderate showers are expected in Parvathipuram Manyam, Konaseema, East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, and Palnadu districts. Light rain is likely in the remaining areas.
As of 5 pm on Wednesday, Seethampet in Manyam district recorded the highest rainfall at 77 mm, followed by Malikipuram in Konaseema with 74.5 mm, Bhimavaram with 67.5 mm, and Vijayawada West and Central with 62.5 mm and 62 mm, respectively.
Authorities have cautioned people in low-lying areas of the Krishna, Godavari, and Tungabhadra river basins to remain vigilant as project waters are being released downstream. Residents are strictly advised against attempting to cross or bathe in overflowing rivers, canals, and streams, especially during Ganesh immersion.
