Rahul deserves an Oscar for pretending to protect Constitution: KTR

BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Tuesday, 9 July, cried foul over the Congress spiriting away BRS MLAs and MLCs in Telangana.

The BRS leader wondered how Congress could resort to the unethical and immoral act while proclaiming to be a staunch defender and protector of the Indian Constitution.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, KTR said: “Congress leader Rahul Gandhi makes a show every day that only he was protecting the Constitution. He always carries a copy of the Constitution with him and holds it aloft in Parliament while referring to it. But, at the same time, he allows Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to engineer the defections of the BRS legislators,”

“He (Rahul Gandhi) deserves an Oscar for the kind of act he puts up,” KTR said.

Questions Congress

The BRS leader pointed out that the Congress’ national manifesto, released ahead of the recent Lok Sabha elections, promised that after coming to power it would amend the 10th schedule of the Constitution to facilitate automatic disqualification of those legislators who defect to other parties and wondered how Rahul Gandhi could justify what was happening in Telangana.

The BRS leader said that Congress should be guilty of bringing Aya Ram-Gaya Ram (Ram has come, Ram has gone) culture into politics.

“When the Congress was in power in undivided Andhra Pradesh before 2014, it resorted to engineering defections. The Congress and the BJP are on the same on this count,” he said.

KTR said that the BRS would raise the in Rajya Sabha.

“Rahul Gandhi is adopting double standards. The Congress had even fielded BRS MLA Danam Nagender in Lok Sabha elections in Telangana. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy himself is going to the residences of the BRS MLAs and admitting them into the Congress,” he said.

Slams Rahul Gandhi

The BRS working president slammed the Congress and said, “After promising to implement the six guarantees made to the people in its manifesto, (Congress) has so far succeeded in spiriting away six MLAs and an equal number of MLCs (of the BRS).”

It has forgotten that it has to honour its promises of providing two lakh jobs to the youth and waiving crop loans of farmers up to ₹2 lakh among others.

The BRS leader expressed surprise over Rahul Gandhi crying hoarse over the BJP engineering defections of Congress MLAs in Goa and Karnataka, after allowing the Telangana Congress to do what the BJP was doing there.

“Rahul Gandhi had repeatedly said that there should be an Act that automatically disqualifies anyone who changes his party after winning an election on another party’s symbol. He always holds out a copy of the Constitution which he carries with him in the Parliament but does not follow it,” he said.

Rama Rao said that a delegation of the BRS would make a representation to the President on how defections were being orchestrated in Telangana.

“We will also meet the Lok Sabha speaker and file petitions in the Supreme Court. The Congress is spending money like water in purchasing the BRS MLAs,” he said.

Trying to expose Rahul Gandhi’s hypocrisy, he pointed out: “You cannot run with hares and hunt with hounds.”
