To infuse vigour and vitality into the sinews of the Congress workers, party top leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will address a rally at Saroornagar Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on 8 May.

Considered a warm-up exercise for the Assembly elections later this year in Telangana, Priyanka Gandhi is expected to show the way forward for the party by taking the BRS head on at the hustings.

Purpose of the rally

The rally is to protest against how the unemployed youth were being left high and dry by the state government and how shoddily it was trying to conduct competitive examinations for filling government jobs.

The aim of the meeting is to expose the hollowness of the claims of the BRS government.

The rally is also expected to focus on how the question papers of the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) had leaked, throwing a wet blanket on the enthusiasm of the job aspirants.

Priyanka Gandhi will have a stop-over in Hyderabad to address the rally en route to Delhi from Bengaluru after rounding up the campaign for the Karnataka Assembly elections.

Have they buried the hatchet?

In a prelude to Priyanka’s rally, TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy, Congress Legislature Party leader Bhatti Vikramarka, working president B Mahesh Kumar Goud, and MPs N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy held a conference with state party in-charge Manikrao Thakre on Tuesday, 2 May.

Lately, there has been a flurry of activity in the party as the Assembly elections are drawing closer.

Revanth Reddy took out a Hath Se Hath Jodo Yatra and Bhatti Vikramarka also hit the streets with a similar programme.

For the time being, an impression is being created that the top leaders of the party in the state have buried the hatchet and are working shoulder-to-shoulder in taking the party forward.

Hope for a cohesive unit

At a rally organised with unemployed youth in Nalgonda recently, the three MPs — Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Revanth Reddy — were seen hugging one another, sporting wide grins.

The uneasy camaraderie has so far not come unstuck and the workers’ hope is that it would continue so that the party would be seen as a cohesive unit, capable of challenging the BRS monolith on the day of reckoning.
