An 8-year-old girl was mowed down by a bus on a damaged road while she was on her way to school in the Bachupally area of Hyderabad early morning on Wednesday, 2 August.
This was the latest incident of a pothole-induced vehicular accident claiming a life in the city, and came on the same day potholes led to three more such incidents. However, no other such casualty was reported.
The girl, identified as Gunda Deekshitha, was a Class 3 student of the Delhi Public School (DPS) in the Bowrampet village of the Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
She was travelling on a scooter with her father Gunda Kishore, an IT employee, when the mishap happened while they were proceeding towards Pragathi Nagar.
According to the FIR, which was accessed by South First, when the father-daughter duo reached a local unit of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Kishore lost control of his bike due to a pothole on the road.
Local reports said the entire stretch of the road was damaged to quite an extent due to the recent incessant rains, making the situation even worse. However, there is no mention of the damaged road in the FIR.
Due to an unfortunate incident, Deekshitha fell from the vehicle. A school van said to be of Bhashyam School, which was behind them, hit their scooter. It then, subsequently, ran over Deekshitha and killed her on the spot.
Her father, Kishore, sustained several injuries on his head and right shoulder.
As per the police, the accident happened due to the van driver’s negligent driving.
“The driver drove his van with high speed in rash and negligent manner and dashed their two-wheeler from the backside,” read the FIR.
The van driver was identified as 26-year-old Shaik Raheem and is a resident of Bowrampet. The cops said Raheem tested negative for drunk driving.
“The accident was caused because he overspeeding. We are further investigating with the help of the CCTV footage,” Bachupally Police Station SHO N Suman Kumar told South First.
The police have registered a case under IPC Sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) and 337 (hurting by negligence).
As per reports, a speeding tipper truck crashed into a bike in Kukatpally on Wednesday, leaving a woman seriously injured.
Anju, a resident of Vivekananda Nagar, was travelling from Kukatpally to Vivekananda Nagar when she made a U-turn opposite the Nexa showroom.
At the same time, a speeding tipper truck collided with her two-wheeler from behind, causing Anju to fall off her bike.
The tipper truck ran over her legs, resulting in a serious injury to one leg. While the other is broken. The locals managed to apprehend the tipper truck driver and handed him over to the police.
The third accident occurred at Bowenpally where a girl travelling with her father was run over after their bike fell.
The incident occurred at 7.45 am on Wednesday in Bowenpally. The girl’s father Vijay Kumar (61) also sustained injuries. The duo was travelling from Kanpjiguda to Secunderabad.
While they were passing by the Priyadarshini Hotel in Bowenpally, the bike fell, reportedly because of a pothole, and the girl was run over by a DCM vehicle which was behind them.
