Sigachi Industries Limited confirmed late on Sunday, 6 July, the tragic loss of two more employees following the devastating blast at its Pashamylaram factory in the Sangareddy district – on the outskirts of Hyderabad in Telangana – bringing the total number of fatalities to 42.

The incident, which occurred on 30 June, remains one of the worst industrial accidents in recent memory in Telangana. Of the 143 employees present at the facility during the time of the accident, 61 have been confirmed safe.

Among the 33 injured, 14 have now recovered and been discharged from hospital care, while 18 are still undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Hyderabad. The injured include workers from Telangana, Bihar, and Odisha.

Eight employees still missing

Alarmingly, eight employees are still unaccounted for. Another person, 51-year-old Mun Mun Chowdary, who had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital for severe burn injuries, passed away on Sunday morning.

Established in 1989, the Pashamylaram plant maintained an incident-free record for 36 years and is certified under ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety. The company stated that it has always adhered to strict safety and compliance protocols.

In a statement released on Sunday, Sigachi Industries expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing emergency response efforts.

The company said it is actively coordinating with local authorities for investigation and compliance and is also providing support to the families of the victims. It added that further updates will be shared when new information becomes available.

A devastating reactor blast at the Sigachi Chemical Plant triggered a massive fire and the collapse of a three-storey building. The blaze spread rapidly through several parts of the facility. The explosion left many bodies charred beyond recognition.
