The move paves the way for fresh recruitments and departmental changes.
The Telangana government has recently issued an order to dismiss 6,729 retired employees who are still working on contracts, according to a report by the Telugu daily Andhra Jyothi.
It is noteworthy that even IAS officers are among those dismissed. Other officers include Metro MD NVS Reddy, Yadagiri Gutta Temple Development Authority (YTDA) Vice Chairman G. Kishan Rao, Consultant Engineer BLN Reddy, and ten Transo Geneco directors.
Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari issued the orders, instructing that all be removed by the end of the month.
She clarified that if any dismissed employees are found to be in need, new notifications and orders should be issued for their redeployment. According to secretariat sources, this decision will pave the way for new appointments.
The municipal department took immediate action, with Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Dana Kishore issuing orders to remove 177 retired employees continuing on contracts within his department.
These employees include retired IAS officers from departments like HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority), GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation), Hyderabad Water Works, Metrorail, RERA (Real Estate Regulatory Authority), MEPMA (Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas), KUDA (Kakatiya Urban Development Authority), and YTDA, as well as RGOs, DPOs, engineers, technicians, section officers, tehsildars, municipal commissioners, deputy collectors, forest department range officers, chief engineers, and assistant engineers.
Other departments are also following suit. The electricity department may remove some more directors, and over 200 employees have already been dismissed in the irrigation department. After the phone-tapping case, many were also removed from the police department, with more dismissals expected. Chief Secretaries and Special Chief Secretaries of key departments such as Revenue, Endowment, Education, BC Welfare, Transport, Excise, and Commercial Taxes will issue similar orders soon.
Although the chief secretary has stated that if there is a need for retired employees, fresh appointments will be made, secretariat sources suggest that fewer than 100 of the 6,729 dismissed employees may have a chance for reappointment.
It is reported that NVS Reddy, who has overseen the Metro Rail project from the beginning, may be one of those considered. Only a few retired employees or officers with technical skills are expected to be reappointed on a contract basis within their respective departments.
The government has been announcing a job calendar every year, with clear recruitment plans, and has already made 58,000 recruitments. In light of the dismissals, secretariat sources suggest that there will be opportunities for replacements from Group 1 to Group 4 through notifications.
Additionally, employees have been alleging that they have not received promotions due to retired employees continuing even after retirement. There is an opinion that a large number of employees will receive promotions following the latest orders.
