Synopsis: The man’s parents offered to buy an affordable Swift Dzire, but he was adamant on getting a BMW. He ingested poison on 30 May and died the next day while undergoing treatment.
A 21-year-old unemployed man at Chatlapalli Village, Jadevpur Mandal in Telangana’s Siddipet district, allegedly died by suicide after his parents refused to buy him a BMW car.
The man, identified as Bomma Johnny, consumed a herbicide on 30 May and died the next day at the RMV Hospital in Mulug.
A Class-X dropout, Johnny had been demanding a BMW car, and his parents — both farm labourers owning two acres — took him to a car showroom with the offer to buy an affordable Maruti Swift Dzire on 30 May. Police said he had been demanding a BMW for some time, and even threatened to die by suicide if his demand was not met.

Johnny reportedly rejected his parents’ offer to buy a Dzire and returned home dejected. He later went to the field where he consumed a bottle of the herbicide and informed his parents.
His father and brother rushed Johnny to the Gajwel Government Hospital and later to the RVM Hospital, Mulug, where he died.
Police said the family decided to buy Johnny a Dzire car, though it was hard for them to afford one, due to his constant threat of ending his life. Investigators expressed suspicion that he was into alcohol as well. He desired a luxurious life and used to force his parents to sell off their land and construct a swanky house.
A case under Section 197 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been filed. Investigators were probing different angles to ascertain if there were any other motives.
