Tensions prevailed at the Qilla Maisamma temple in RK Puram, Maheshwaram over cheque distribution, as part of the Bonalu festival celebration.

Every year, during Bonalu festival, the local temples are given cheques from the government to facilitate the celebrations.

However, the event took an unpleasant turn on Monday, with BRS MLA Sabita Indra Reddy and Congress leaders arguing over the protocols of cheque distribution.

Maheshwaram, where the temple is located, is represented by former minister and BRS MLA Sabita Indra Reddy.

The former minister alleged that the officials had invited Congress leaders on the stage, but not her, who represents the constituency.

Following the clash, Sabita Indra Reddy staged a sit-in protest near the stage. She sat down, while Congress leaders sat on the dias.

The BRS party too took to X, to share that, Congress government has insulted the former minister and five-time woman MLA.

“The Congress candidate who lost is on stage, and the candidate who won with people’s mandate is sitting on the floor.”

Training guns at the ruling Congress, the BRS questioned, if this was the respect a woman leader, who won five times, gets in the “Prajala Palana”.

“Is this the ‘change’ brought by the Congress party?”

BRS working president KTR too criticised the Congress government and questioned why a losing candidate handing out the cheques, instead of an elected representative.

‘Furthering political agenda’: Sabita

Sabita Indra Reddy further lashed out at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for furthering the political agenda and not respecting the elected representatives.

She further asserted that, “If the government wants to conduct any program through party lines, it should bring a law specifying the same, then we will also not question.”

“The government is silent on rapes, and crimes against the citizens. Students, and unemployed youth are staging protests, but the government doesn’t care about them,” she added.

The videos and photos showed the former minister questioning officials.
