The deadlock over the BRS candidate for the Narsapur Assembly seat ended on Wednesday, 25 October, with the party leadership persuading sitting MLA Chilumula Madan Reddy to stand down to make way for Telangana State Women Commission chairperson Vakiti Sunitha Lakshma Reddy to contest from the constituency in the 30 November election.
Narsapur is one of the seats that KCR had kept pending as no agreement could be reached between the two warring factions in the party in the constituency at the time of the release of the first list on 21 August.
Sunitha Lakshma Reddy was keen on contesting the Assembly poll from Narsapur, which she has represented in the past, but the sitting MLA Madan Reddy would not relent on his plea that the BRS should field him for the seat.
At a meeting with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday, party core committee members managed to persuade Madan Reddy to let Sunitha contest in the election from Narsapur.
To make good for what he is losing, Magan Reddy has been promised a ticket from Medak in the Lok Sabha elections next year. The chief minister then handed over the B form to Sunitha to file her nomination papers for the Narsapur seat.
The chief minister, appreciating the gesture of Madan Reddy to back down, said: “Madan Reddy has been in the party with me since the beginning. He has remained very close to me for the last 35 years. I appreciate him for deciding to campaign for Sunitha and ensure her election to the Assembly.”
“Madan Reddy will be the party nominee for the Lok Sabha from Medak which is now being represented by Kotha Prabhakar Reddy. Madan Reddy is not only a popular leader in Narsapur but also in the entire Medak district,” he added.
Though the party has announced a list of candidates for 115 of the 119 seats on 21 August, it has so far handed over B Forms to only 110 candidates.
Though Alampur sitting MLA VM Abraham was among the list of candidates that KCR had announced, he is yet to be handed over the B Form.
In Alampur, MLC Challa Venkatrami Reddy is reportedly opposing Abraham’s candidature. He has been bringing pressure on the party leadership not to allot the ticket to Abraham. But the sitting MLA recently called on BRS working president KT Rama Rao and requested that he be retained.
The party leadership has already decided on the candidature of Palla Rajeswar Reddy for Jangaon, for which a decision was deferred when the list of 115 candidates was announced.
The party is yet to announce candidates for Nampally and Goshamhal, while the candidates for Malakpet, Yakuthpura, Chandrayangutta, Charminar, Bhadurpura and Karwan are yet to receive B forms.
