The Gachibowli police have launched an investigation into a suspected murder after finding the decomposing body of a woman, who had been missing from her home since 25 August.

The body of the 38 daily-wage labourer was found at an under-construction building site at Nanakramguda on Tuesday, 29 August.

Her stepdaughter had lodged a person missing complaint with the Gachibowli police on 27 August.

In her complaint, Manjali Laxmi, 19, said the woman had left home around 11 pm on 25 August and her mobile phone was found to be switched off. She said the woman was addicted to alcohol. Laxmi searched for her stepmother for two days before approaching the police.

Husband in jail

The deceased woman’s husband has been serving a life sentence in connection with his first wife’s death.

“We received information saying that a body was found at an under-construction building in Nanakramguda. We found that it was the same woman who had been missing. She was the second wife of the complainant’s father,” B Jemes Babu, Inspector of Gachbowli Police, told South First.

The dead woman had been staying with the complainant with her two children. The police said the women occasionally quarelled between themselves.

The police said the exact cause of the death would be known only after a post-mortem examination. “Since the body has been decomposed, we cannot confirm the allegations of rape. The body has been sent to Osmania General Hospital for a Periodic Medical Examination (PME),” the officer said.
