Synopsis: BRS women leaders on Tuesday expressed strong support for party chief K Chandrashekar Rao’s decision to suspend his daughter and MLC K Kavitha, calling it a step that placed the party above family ties. Former minister Satyavathi Rathod, former MLA Gongidi Sunitha, former MP Maloth Kavitha criticised Kavitha’s recent remarks against the party’s senior leadership, describing them as damaging to the BRS’s image and asserting that her suspension had “made everyone happy.”

Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) woman leaders have rallied behind party chief K Chandrashekar Rao’s decision to suspend his daughter, MLC K Kavitha, framing it as a move that reaffirmed discipline and placed the party above family ties.

At a press meet held at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, September 2, former Minister Satyavathi Rathod, former MLA Gongidi Sunitha, and former MP Maloth Kavitha voiced strong support for the action.

Kavitha’s suspension came a day after she accused her cousins, former irrigation minister T Harish Rao, and ex-MP J Santosh Rao of amassing huge assets by making her father and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao a scapegoat in the alleged Kaleshwaram scam.

They argued that Kavitha’s recent conduct had damaged the party’s image and morale, with the decision reportedly restoring confidence among the cadre.

While the cracks between Kavitha and the party had deepened in the last couple of months, her suspension has seemingly sealed the break with the BRS.

‘Embarrassed the party’

Satyavathi Rathod said the suspension was necessary in light of Kavitha’s recent remarks and behaviour.

“We have seen what Kavitha has been saying for the last three months. She has done a lot of damage to the party and hurt the BRS ranks with her words,” Rathod said. She added that the decision “has made everyone happy, especially women,” she said.

“KCR has proven that crores of people who trusted him are more important than the bond of blood, and that the cadre are more important than family members.”

She dismissed Kavitha’s allegations against Harish Rao, calling them baseless.

“Harish Rao and KTR are like the right and left shoulders of KCR,” Rathod said, praising Harish Rao’s performance in the Assembly.

She also accused Kavitha of failing to maintain the respect she initially enjoyed as KCR’s daughter.

Gongidi Sunitha said Kavitha’s actions had embarrassed the party. “Kavitha dug a hole for herself. Someone is shooting at Kavitha with a gun on her shoulder,” she remarked, suggesting that Kavitha was being influenced by others.

Sunitha also stressed that the decision reflected KCR’s consistent stand that the party is above family.

‘Boost to cadre morale’

Maloth Kavitha said the suspension had lifted the morale of party workers.

“The way Harish Rao spoke in the Assembly brought new enthusiasm to BRS. To dilute this, some people made Kavitha make anti-party comments,” she said. “Every worker is celebrating the decision to suspend Kavitha.”

She noted that while Kavitha once enjoyed popularity online, “now it has become trolling.”

Other leaders, including former TGPSC member Sumitra, former corporation chairman Rajani Saichand, and BRS leaders Sushila Reddy, Satyavati, Charulatha, and Nirosha, also attended the press meet.

They reiterated that Kavitha had been given opportunities in the past but failed to uphold party discipline.
