Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy on Friday, 12 May, said land disputes in Telangana increased manifold after the commencement of the Dharani portal, which the state government claimed as a one-stop destination for agricultural land transactions.

He told reporters the portal was creating many issues for people and lakhs of farmers were facing problems because of it, adding that farmers were forced to approach courts against the government, seeking justice.

’10 lakh applications pending’

Kishan Reddy said 10 lakh applications under various categories were pending with officials and there was no option in the Dharani portal to correct the mistakes made in the passbooks.

He pointed out that the portal lacked options to rectify the problems.

“Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said the mutation process would be completed in minutes with the help of the Dharani portal and added that it was transparent and there was no scope for corruption,” he said.

However, the situation was completely different at the field level as farmers were facing untold problems to carry out agricultural land transactions, Reddy said.

“The state government said the Dharani portal would find a solution to land problems. But it has now become an advantage for the BRS leaders only,” he added.

‘Completely weakened revenue system’

He alleged that the BRS government had completely weakened the revenue system in the name of the Dharani portal adding that the ruling party leaders and real-estate businessmen became syndicates and were doing land business in the city suburbs.

The Union minister alleged the middlemen and the ruling party leaders were encroaching on the peoples’ lands by taking advantage of the errors in the portal.

Kishan Reddy questioned why the Cabinet sub-committee was set up if it failed to resolve the issues regarding the portal.

“Did the committee submit a report to the government recommending changes in the report?” he asked.

He demanded that the government reveal the number of complaints it received on land issues in Dharani and how many of them were resolved.
