KTR summoned by ACB in Formula E case, calls It political vendetta

Synopsis: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has summoned former Telangana minister and BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) to appear on 28 May over alleged irregularities in funding the Formula E race in Hyderabad. The case concerns the ₹55 crore transfer approved under KTR’s watch, after original promoter Ace Nxt Gen Pvt. Ltd withdrew from the event

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has summoned former Telangana minister and BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) to appear before it on 28 May in connection with alleged irregularities in the funding of the Formula E race held in Hyderabad.

The case involves financial transactions made during the organisation of the 9th season of the Formula E race in February 2023.

KTR, who headed the Municipal Administration Department at the time, is under the scanner for approving the transfer of ₹55 crore—reportedly including ₹9 crore in taxes—from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to the event organisers after the original private promoter, Ace Nxt Gen Pvt. Ltd, backed out.

KTR responds to notice

In response to the ACB notice, KTR posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter), expressing willingness to cooperate while alleging political harassment.

“The ACB has given me a notice to appear for an enquiry on the 28th of May in the Formula E case. As a law-abiding citizen, I will definitely cooperate with the agencies even though the case is nothing but pure political harassment,” he wrote.

KTR added that he had informed ACB officials in writing about his pre-scheduled visit to the UK and USA for various events and assured that he would appear before the agency upon his return.

Taking aim at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, KTR accused him of orchestrating the investigation as an act of political revenge.

“I should appreciate Revanth Reddy for his thirst for political vendetta and the way he swings in any direction without any scruples to achieve the same,” he said.

Referring to recent developments in the National Herald money laundering case, KTR added,

“48 hours ago, his name figures in the ED chargesheet. 24 hours later, he is seen schmoozing with BJP top brass including PM Modi! Not a word against Revanth Reddy from a single BJP leader.”

KTR concluded by accusing Revanth of failing as an administrator and indulging in “cheap vendetta politics,” adding, “I know BRS scares him. So, keep trying.”

The ACB’s move comes amid increasing political tension in Telangana, with the BRS alleging targeted probes against its leaders and the Congress government promising action on corruption under the previous regime.
