Synopsis: Responding to KTR’s allegation that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is tapping the phones of his Cabinet colleagues, Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar said the BRS leader, when in power, got the intelligence wing to snoop on Kavitha.
Even as Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has been accused of tapping the phones of his Cabinet colleagues, the ruling Congress dropped a bombshell on the Opposition BRS, saying it snooped on MLC K Kavitha when it was in power.
Responding to BRS Working President KT Rama Rao’s allegation that Revanth Reddy was tapping the phones of his minister, including that of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar said Kavitha’s phone was tapped when her father, K Chandrashekar Rao, was the chief minister.
Kavitha’s brother Rama Rao and cousin T Harish Rao were ministers in the Chandrashekar Rao Cabinet. Kumar’s allegation came even as an apparent power struggle was raging within the Chandrashekar family.
‘Stooping low’
MP Kumar revealed that Rama Rao, while in power, got the intelligence wing to tap Kavitha’s phone. “How low can one go in politics. Having targeted your own sister, you have no right to make accusations against us,” Kumar said, while speaking to reporters.
Rama Rao had on Friday, 18 July, alleged in Khammam that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was tapping the phones of Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, since he feared that they would snatch his seat.
In a separate chat with a television channel, Vikramarka said he did not believe that the phones of any ministers were being tapped. “I don’t know on what basis KTR is making such allegations. If he has any concrete information, he should reveal it.”
The BRS, which was in power for 10 years from 2014, is currently under investigation for allegedly tapping hundreds of phones belonging to political rivals, journalists, and intellectuals. Several of them, including Union ministers and MPs, have already appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the scandal.
