Synopsis: BRS Working President KTR has set 14 September as the deadline for the Congress government to announce a schedule for releasing water into the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal, failing which he said he would lead a padayatra from Kodad to Haliya with thousands of farmers. He said around 180 TMC of water was available in Nagarjuna Sagar, but the government was not releasing it into the Left Canal, leaving farmers in the ayacut at risk of losing their crops.
BRS Working President KTR has announced that he will undertake a padayatra from Kodad to Haliya along with thousands of farmers if the Congress government fails to announce a clear schedule for supplying water to the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal by 14 September.
Speaking at the Farmers’ Maha Dharna in Miryalaguda, KTR said that despite around 180 TMC of water being available in Nagarjuna Sagar, the Congress government was not releasing water into the Left Canal, leaving farmers worried as their crops faced the risk of drying up.
He recalled that in 2003, BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao had undertaken a padayatra from Kodad to Haliya to fight for the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal farmers and had successfully pressured the then government to address their water-related problems.
Likewise, KTR said he was prepared to launch another movement for farmers.

KTR said the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut, which flourished under the BRS government and contributed significantly to Telangana’s agricultural growth, was now facing a severe crisis. Farmers across the Left Canal command area were uncertain about water availability for their crops, he said.
He also criticised the Congress government over its promises to farmers, alleging that several assurances made during the elections, including those related to loan waivers, financial assistance and crop bonuses, had not been implemented as promised.
KTR demanded that the government immediately announce a detailed water-release plan specifying when water would be supplied and how many irrigation turns would be provided to farmers.
“If the government does not announce a clear water-release schedule by September 14, I will personally undertake a padayatra from Kodad to Haliya with thousands of farmers,” KTR said, asserting that the BRS would continue its fight until water was released and the farmers’ interests were protected.
