Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao is expected to lead a delegation from the state to the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, between 16 and 20 January.

The delegation is flying from Hyderabad on the night of 14 January and will reach Zurich on 15 January afternoon. It will then proceed to Davos by road.

This is the fifth time that a business delegation from the state is going to the WEF convention in Davos.

Telangana sent a delegation to Davos for the first time in 2018, followed by years 2019, 2020 and 2022.

The global summit of business and political leaders generally happens in the month of January.

However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2022 event was held in the month of May.

WEF President Borge Brende, in his invitation to KTR, had written: “Your leadership in transforming Telangana into a leading technology powerhouse is noteworthy.”

Push for Telangana

The 2023 edition of the WEF convention is happening under the theme “Cooperation in a Fragmented World”.

The alpine resort town of Davos, at an altitude of 1,560 metres above sea level, is all decked up to host the prestigious annual summit.

Apart from participating in various sessions at the WEF, KTR is expected to meet top leaders of several global marquee companies at the Telangana Pavilion in Davos.

The minister will also participate in industry roundtables organised on the sidelines of the WEF event.

With an ultimate aim to showcase Telangana as an investment destination for global firms and to create more employment opportunities for the state’s youth in the private sector, KTR is expected to spell out the business policies of the government.

The Telangana delegation’s previous trips to Davos were quite successful, fetching sizeable investments that resulted in a good amount of job creation for the local youth.

Several investment pledges are expected to be clinched this year as well.
