Synopsis: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau launched coordinated raids on 12 properties linked to Nune Sridhar, the former executive engineer of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, across the state on Wednesday, reportedly uncovering a range of disproportionate assets and financial interests amid the ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in the planning and execution of the previous BRS regime’s flagship project.
Even as former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao appeared before the Justice PC Ghose Commission on Wednesday, 11 June in connection with alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) carried out coordinated searches across 12 locations linked to Nune Sridhar, a former executive engineer of the project.
Sridhar, currently posted at the SRSP (Sriram Sagar Project) division in Karimnagar, is under investigation for allegedly accumulating disproportionate assets during his tenure as Executive Engineer of KLIS. He presently serves in Division 8 of the Command Area Development at Choppadandi.
During the searches, ACB officials reportedly identified a number of properties and financial interests associated with him. These include:
He is also reported to have spent several crores of rupees on his son’s destination wedding in Thailand.
Further, Sridhar allegedly dismissed public complaints regarding leaks in the Kaleshwaram project in 2019, a matter that has resurfaced amid the current investigation.
Sources indicate that Sridhar has been taken into custody by the ACB, and the investigation is currently ongoing.
At the same time, Bharat Rashtra Samithi supremo K Chandrashekar Rao appeared for an in-camera deposition before the Justice Ghose Commission in Hyderabad.
The appearance follows a long list of other high-profile appearances over the past year before the commission, which is probing various aspects of the planning and execution of KLIS, a flagship initiative of the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government.
The closed-door session reportedly lasted for around 50 minutes.
KCR is understood to have submitted a detailed report, supported by documentation, in response to the commission’s questions, and to have given a presentation outlining the project’s details.
