Khammam: Telangana HC stays installation of Krishna avatar statue of NTR on Lakaram Tank Bund

Petitions were filed in the court by certain Yadava associations and ISKCON who took objection to the statue of NTR in Lord Krishna's avatar.

The Telangana High Court on Thursday, 18 May, stayed the installation of a 54-foot-tall statue of NT Rama Rao in Lord Sri Krishna avatar on Lakaram Tank Bund in Khammam on the thespian’s 100th birth anniversary on 28 May.

The high court, while asking the respondents to file their counters, stayed the statue’s inauguration for which state Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar had invited NTR’s grandson and actor NT Rama Rao Jr.

Objections voiced

The court passed the orders on petitions filed by certain Yadava associations and ISKCON, who took objection to the installation of the statue of NTR in the avatar of Lord Krishna.

Yadava associations even warned that they would pull down the statue if the government did not heed their advice against its installation.

The statue has been made with ₹2.3 crore donated by NRIs, industrialists, and businessmen who adored NTR.

Varma of Nizamabad designed the statue. The statue resembles NTR’s rendition of Lord Sri Krishna in the 1967 movie Krishnavataram.
